Mar 25, 2015 @Narsh there's no way your write ups for each track will be that long. n----- how much time is on your hands?
Mar 25, 2015 Mention me too. Great write ups, love the song. Love the fact that he put that dre voicemail on it as well. @Narsh then it shouldn't cost you 2 weeks
Mar 25, 2015 what are everyone elses thoughts/ratings for this track? if theres any time to start slapin on numbers on this b----, its now -- i give yall permission
Mar 25, 2015 unless we s--- on anything haha i honestly dont know if any track on here will get a truly negative review tho tbqh
Mar 25, 2015 Good write-ups, as expected. I really like this as an intro, it's the perfect start to this album, and a very good song in its own right. I'm glad he found a way to utilise Dre without giving him verses this time xD Feel free to mention me @Narsh, cuz I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman
Mar 25, 2015 You guys covered it pretty well, but as far as my own thoughts on it; I like the way the cocoon and butterfly metaphors are introduced and start to take shape in this song. The contrast of the first and second verse from different perspectives is interesting and works well. The only negative feedback I have is Kendrick's voice at times. The hook on this song for example, almost makes me reach for the skip buttin when it comes on. I just don't think Kendrick's voice works for that kind of hook and really believe someone else could have been on that and it would have sounded much better. The voice on the first verse bothered me a little at first as well, but i kind of grew to like it. I'm not rocking with that hook though. I'd give it a 9/10.
Mar 25, 2015 Interesting, tbh. I think his voice sounds a lot more polarizing at other moments on the album, not Wesley's theory. this isnt anything that didnt work previously on BDKMV or Real or something ya know? but yeah, i love george clinton's part at the start introducing the cocoon and butterfly
Mar 25, 2015 Maybe its just the setting, because i love both bdkmv and real. It just sounds more natural in those, this almost sounds forced. I think thundercat shouldve just done the hook as well.
Mar 25, 2015 That was excellent great job guys Yea this is very much my favorite from the album, from the moment you hear George Clinton's introduction followed by Kendrick's hook you already know your about to start something great. The funky beat courtesy of FlyLo really confirms that these two need to continue working together, it's that next level s---. The song itself is the perfect tone-setter for what the audience can expect for the rest of the album sonically & thematically.
Mar 25, 2015 Wesley's theory is such a memorable track, from the beginning sample to George Clinton to the Dre Voicemail to "tax man cominnnnn", and that's not even including the verses. One of my favorites off the album for sure. 10/10 Great writeup guys, excited for the rest of them.
