Mar 27, 2015 Pretty sure MOST people think that King Kunta is one of the best songs on the album, no?
Mar 27, 2015 I was more commenting on Joshuas's thoughts as a whole haha. He seems to be mirroring a lot of your thoughts (probably just coincidentally) every step of the way. You're right, King Kunta is pretty much universally loved though -- although I don't know if everyone would agree that it's top 3 or something. I know, on here at least, Wesley's Theory, Mortal Man, Hood Politics, HMADC etc would all be rated as highly. IMO King Kunta is definitely in the top 5
Mar 27, 2015 wait..was i dreaming or didnt you say @Swizz and wpg always agree on things as well earlier? or was that someone else?
Mar 27, 2015 So if you click on the dancing dean gif in my write up, it pops out to the center of the screen like a picture would, cept both deans are dancing at the same time Looks pretty awesome
Mar 27, 2015 Yeah I had to read the King Kunta reviews. By far the best song imo but what do I know? I just discovered Good Kid and think that is one of the best rap songs of this decade let alone the best from Kendrick. I don't know what surprised me more the fact that I missed that song or that f---ing Pharrell produced it. I'm about 3 years late but what a grossly underrated song.
Mar 27, 2015 Yeah dude you'd be disgusted by how underrated good kid was on SL, glad you missed that tbh I always loved it/thought it was a great "calm before the storm" moment WPG and others tried to have that and dying of thirst lumped in whicth real and Compton as low points, which maybe true relatively, but is really misleading I don't think good kid is one of kendricks best or anything but is great Have u peeped my top 15 kendrick verses piece for the site? Kind of a dense read but hey if you got time m8 would love your thoughts: http://sectioneighty.com/top-15-kendrick-lamar-verses/
Mar 27, 2015 One of the low points lol? What the f---? Maybe I'm thinking of a different song. "All I see in this room/20 Xanies and these 'shrooms/Grown-up candy for pain". That song? To be fair though I don't see how it's really calm, either. I think that song has a sense of urgency to it that nothing else on the album does. That s--- pumps me up. I guess I don't "get" Kendrick like everybody else.
Mar 27, 2015 I thought King Kunta was widely considered a highlight? @Koolo has praised it since he first heard it. And its not my fault @Swizz has good taste too. lol
Mar 27, 2015 My ratings for the album would be 1. “Wesley’s Theory” featuring George Clinton & Thundercat - 10/10 2. “For Free? (Interlude)” - 8/10 3. “King Kunta” - 10/10 4. “Institutionalized” featuring Bilal, Anna Wise, & Snoop Dogg - 8/10 5. “These Walls” featuring Bilal, Anna Wise, & Thundercat - 8/10 6. “u” - 10/10 7. “Alright” - 8.5/10 8. “For Sale? (Interlude)” - 8/10 9. “Momma” - 7.5/10 10. “Hood Politics” -10/10 11. “How Much A Dollar Cost” featuring James Fauntleroy & Ronald Isley - 9/10 12. “Complexion (A Zulu Love)” featuring Rapsody - 7.5/10 13. “The Blacker The Berry” - 9/10 14. “You Ain’t Gotta Lie (Momma Said)” -9/10 15. “i” - 8/10 16. “Mortal Man” 10/10 There isn't a bad song on the album.
Mar 27, 2015 Yeah no, "good taste" isn't what I'm questioning here lol. Even your "complaints" are like identical. but anyways, it's not really important It was always overlooked or talked about as almost filler
Mar 27, 2015 I meant the album as a whole, not that particular song. I think a lot of SL posters got unfairly labeled as "haters" of GKMC just because they had problems with the ending.
Mar 27, 2015 Legit didn't notice I did that! I'm a fan of all three songs so far, but I narrowly have WT > KK coz I'm in love with that beat change-up and s---. "Ev-ery n----- is a starrrrr.... HIT ME *funk sets in*" And then the George Clinton spiel, man one of the best intro songs ever!
