I disagree, obviously, but even if you don't like the album it was undeniably the kind of project Jay needed to make at this point in his career. A more grounded album, fully embracing his status as like, rap elder statesman was exactly what was necessary after BP3 and MCHG, where he was largely chasing trends.

Singles often lack the full power of the artist's lyricism. They are meant to be easily absorbed by even the dumbest audiences. It's the deep cuts that make an album great.

Am I looking forward to a new Nas album? Oh h--- yeah.

Does this single give me confidence in it? Not really.

This felt pretty auto-pilot by his lofty standards, but there were flashes of what he can actually do in a couple intervals.

I'm still pretty confident this will turn out to be good, Hit-Boy mastered the Neo Boom-Bap production over the last couple of years. Just hope Nas delivers on his end.

Man Hit-Boy was such a beast in the early 2010s. Clique, Paris, Goldie, Backseat Freestyle, Trophies, Feelin' Myself.

This production suits Nas but he definitely still feels a little sluggish I agree with @Antman. Not bad.

I only listened to a little bit bc I’m at work.

while I agree that it’s definitely better than the Kanye produced stuff, I just feel like his delivery is off. I find Nas to be precise with his music. I feel like he’s not as tight as he was let’s say on Life is Good.

but I shall give this a proper spin today with headphones!

We can hope. Could drop something soon, or disappear for years. Never can tell with Nas.

Nas mentions 2 projects in April: https://www.complex.com/music/2020/04/nas-hit-boy-working-on-project

I wouldn’t even care if it was just a skit, but all of his deeds are stacking on top of each other and then you start noticing things.

Nas mentioned 2 projects he was working on earlier in the year. He said he was working with Hit-Boy on one, and had another project he didn't want to speak on. Perhaps this is Firm related.

Would have loved a vintage Dre beat, I did like Hit-Boys attempt at making it sound like one tbh. Had a similar baseline to Phone Tap
