Franchise QBs/elite QBs don't come around every year. So when a team values a QB as their franchise, they spend to keep them. Every QB contract sets the market for the next one. Brady and Rodgers take less because they would break the scale if they really got what their level deserves based on the scale these guys set. Plus Brady and Rodgers make up the difference in endorsements. What lucrative endorsement deal does Stafford or Cousins have?Boos, Enigma, Sign Language and 1 other person like this. - May 7, 2025

Was down at training camp today. Alshon is f---ing huge. So is Blount. That Gibson kid looks like he has some potential as well. Biggest thing that stood out to me was Nelson Agholor, dude looks like a completely different person, routes are super clean and quick and he's making the tough catches. Hope he has a bounce back year this season. Wentz looked sharp. They ran 11o11 at the end.
After being there today, it only made me more excited than I already was. Gonna head down to the next open practice next Sunday again. Also, there was 23,000 f---ing people there today lol. Can you say football town? @Boos

Sorry I never posted this Friday. Got my grade back today which reminded me. 95%, not too shabby.
I also kinda said f--- it and just went for the grade, so it's not fact checked and may not be entirely 100% true/spot on, but it's not bad imo. That's what happens when you procrastinate a paper and type it all on a Friday evening. Also not posting everything cuz it ended up being over 5 pages. This is just like a few
Due to its large television audience, professional football could be argued the most popular sport in America today. In fact, according to The Harris Poll survey in 2016, professional football is the most popular sport in America and it has consistently gotten bigger and bigger since the early 2000s. Certain teams, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots have cultivated famously loyal fan bases across the country. Due to their dominance of almost the past two decades, the Patriots have become the center of the football world, overtaking the 90’s Dallas Cowboys that had the whole world watching them. Being the best has come with its fair share of controversy and speculation though. In 2008, the Patriots were caught videotaping the New York Jets’ defensive signals during a game, famously known as Spygate. Eight years later, the Patriots, specifically Tom Brady, found themselves in trouble again. According to ESPN, an NFL-commissioned investigation, led by lawyer Ted Wells, after four months had concluded it "was more probable than not" that Brady had been "at least generally aware" that the Patriots' footballs used in the AFC Championship Game held this year had been deflated to air pressure levels below what the league allowed. This was the beginning of Deflategate, one of the biggest crises in recent sports history.
Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, has been the most successful quarterback on the National Football League’s most dominant franchise since the early 2000s. Many would claim that he is the face of professional football, even stretching it as far as the face of sports. It’s hard to argue with his accomplishments. According to Pro Football Reference, he’s won five Super Bowls, four Super Bowl MVP’s, (most all-time) been selected to 12 Pro Bowls, and has led the Patriots to 14 division titles. (most all-time) According to Bleacher Report NFL National Lead Writer Mike Freeman, “It's officially settled as to who is the best to ever do this. Brady is the only quarterback in history with five Super Bowl wins, and he pulled off the most impossible comeback we've ever seen in Super Bowl history. If you are still arguing who is the best quarterback ever, you are doing this wrong.” So when Deflategate happened, it was understandable why so many people, fans or not, were challenged by Commissioner Roger Goodell’s decision to suspend Brady the first four games of the 2016 season. Obviously, Brady was extremely challenged by his decision, but Goodell probably didn’t realize the impact his decision would have on himself and the rest of the world, especially in the digital age. Goodell’s integrity has rightfully been questioned ever since. According to The Huffington Post’s Travis Waldron, “(Federal) Judge Richard Berman ruled that Brady’s suspension was "premised on several legal deficiencies" that did not adhere to the league’s collective bargaining agreement, or CBA, with its players.” George Atallah, the NFL Player Association’s assistant executive director for external affairs, stated that “There are only two options moving forward, either the commissioner and league office respect the parameters of our Collective Bargaining Agreement, or we work together to improve the system.” An unnamed NFL owner told Bleacher Report that “This entire episode is embarrassing our sport.” It also obviously affected the Patriots as a team. They had just lost the face of their franchise for the first four games of the season. Considering the season is only 16 games, that’s a fourth of the games right there and every single game matters. In the NFL, you can’t pull a Gregg Popovich and sit your starters for rest any random night. The Spurs and Popovich can get away with that in the NBA because it’s an 82 game season. Luckily, the Patriots also employ one of the greatest coaches of all-time, Bill Belichick. Much like Popovich over his career, he has consistently been able to get the most out of his players and talent. When Brady tore his ACL in the first game of the 2008 season, backup Matt Cassel started the remaining 15 games and they finished with an impressive 11-5 record. They failed to win the division and missed the playoffs due to losing the tiebreaker with the Miami Dolphins, but that’s still an impressive season considering that Cassel has been fairly mediocre everywhere else he’s played. The suspension gave backup Jimmy Garoppolo a chance to shine, which he did until he suffered a shoulder injury week two. This has since boosted his already high value and has the Patriots feeling like they may have their quarterback of the future. Jacoby Brissett, their 3rd string quarterback, was able to win the next game, but lost week four against the Dolphins. Going 3-1 without Brady was still impressive though. After Deflategate was first being investigated in 2015, ESPN's Darren Rovell reported that “an E-Poll indicates Brady's personal popularity has slipped to the point where people are nearly equally split on whether they like him or not.” It was time for Brady to set out on his “revenge tour” and lead the team to his fifth Super Bowl.
Deflategate was a covered heavily by the media during its initial investigation. On Monday January 19, 2015, the story broke. It gained national attention quickly as the Patriots had just earned a trip to Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks. Since the Super Bowl is the most anticipated game in sports, attention to the story was increased. After the Super Bowl was over, Deflategate slowly began to dissolve and lost much of the attention it had originally had due to the offseason. This interest continued to dissipate until early May, when the aftermath of a 243-page report by independent attorney Theodore V. Wells, Jr. resulted in the NFL suspending Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady for the first four games of the 2015 season and stripping the team of two high draft picks. This was also around the same time Twitter was blowing up and much of the story was being covered and discussed on this medium. Due to Twitter’s simplicity of communication, the scandal was able to grow quickly and it didn’t take long until it had everyone’s attention again. It was like a spreading disease. On September 3, 2015, U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said Goodell went too far in affirming punishment of Brady and erased his four game suspension, but as soon as the following April, his suspension was reinstated.
Goodell messed up and he needs to realize it. He owes the NFL and its fans an apology for the handling of Deflategate. There hasn’t been a crisis like it since, but let’s hope that he’s figured out how to deal with them since, because Deflategate was truly a crisis that could’ve been avoided. Brady went on to get the last laugh though. After being suspended the first four games of the season, he led the Patriots to the Super Bowl and won the Super Bowl MVP, receiving both trophies from none other than Roger Goodell. What a “deflating” ending to the season for Goodell. One day, he’ll learn. Maybe.Boos, Enigma, TimmyT and 1 other person like this. -
