I actually don't mind if they throw it on 3rd down. People who are saying "LOL THEY SHOULD'VE RUN IT 4 STRAIGHT TIMES LOL" are idiots.

As great as Lynch is, you still want to keep the Pats honest. Collins, Hightower, Chandler, Branch and Wilfork were playing out of their minds most of the game... The only quarter that they started playing bad was in the third quarter... Otherwise, when Lynch carried the ball, you saw them g--- tackling him.

Third down would've been an excellent time to call a slant, or a read option PA. I wouldn't have thrown a fade against the Pats, or a long developing pass play.

The pass that they ran was actually a LOW RISK play call. Honestly, I know it looks s-----y right now, but it was a low risk/high reward pass play. At the very LEAST, you expect a corner to bat the ball away... not intercept it. They had the matchup they wanted.

If it was Revis that made the interception, I would be WAY more critical right now. I'd expect a player like Revis, or McCourtey to jump on a ball like that...However, you're testing a rookie. He doesn't have the same level of confidence as McCourtey or Revis does..

This is how I would've called the sequence:

1st and Goal on 5: Run..
    - Waste as much time as possible...

2nd and Goal on 1: Run...
    - Call timeout.

3rd and Goal on 1: The same pass call, or a read option PA.
    - No timeout needed if incomplete.

    4th and Goal on 1:
-Pre-snap, I call timeout to see the defense they're in.
    - Call a run.

A TON of credit needs to go to Butler. What he did was incredible.

tl;dr? Basically, I think they should've passed it on third down instead of second. Same play is fine.

Actually, you're right. I just checked.

I guess I like the play call that they made then, sorry guys.

If it falls incomplete, you can run it on 3rd down, then call your final timeout, and run it again.

JUST SAY, Pats stop them from running it in on 2nd down? Then you have to either rush to the line of scrimmage for a quick run, OR call time out...

Now you've basically limited yourself to ONE play. There's no way you're going to be able to set up to run it 2nd, 3rd and 4th down. NO WAY. At least with a pass, you can have that opportunity.

A low risk pass play call on second down MAXIMIZES your opportunities at the goal line, without giving Tom Brady the chance at getting the ball back.

I also think, Pete Carroll might've been expecting Belichick to call timeout... I think that had a lot to do with it too.

I said this exact thing earlier lol the call itself really wasn't all that bad. You pass on 2nd, you're not expecting Russel Wilson who's protected the ball well his entire career to throw an interception nor are you expecting Butler to make a Sherman/Revis like play on the football. Worst case scenario is that it's incomplete and you stop the clock and can try to run it on 3rd, you don't get in you call a timeout and draw something up for 4th.

I really do hate Stephen A Smith with all my passion, as i was getting ready this morning first take just happened to be one because I was watching ESPN last night and he said "I don't care what the scenario is, i don't care about the 3 wideouts, i don't care about the fact they knew what was coming, i don't care about any of that stuff. You got Marshawn Lynch, you must give him the football". Essentially he's saying that he doesn't care about schemes, formations or anything..... How can you just disregard something like that in football? smh..... People are acting like the Seahawks attempted to pass it 3 straight times and couldn't get in, that's not what happened.

While the call COULD have worked, it was still the wrong call. Just like the Saints onside against the Colts in the SB, and Stafford jumping over the line against Dallas with :12 left a couple years ago, and Belichick going for it on 4th down on the Colts side of the field years ago, and an unlimited supply of examples. Sometimes it works, and you look like a genius, but if it doesn't work it's really no surprise, because it's the wrong call. In some cases you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain, but that wasn't the case here. It wasn't a desperation call. The Seahawks had literally everything to lose, and very little to gain, because they had 3 downs, a timeout, and plenty of playclock to work with (Like :40, I believe?).

Honestly the safest thing they could've done was just QB sneak it from under center, three straight plays if necessary. They were literally like two feet from the goaline.

This play will go down as the worst call in NFL history. 50 years from now it'll be #1 on one of those NFL Network Top 10 shows.

I heard an interesting stat that sort of defends the play call a bit. Lynch apparently has had 5 chances to run the ball inside of the 1 yard line or closer(I assume this season) and only scored on 1 of them. Also of all the plays in the NFL this year on the 1 yard line or closer, that was the only one that was an INT. d---.

Still, they should have run it there and then called their timeout if he didn't get in. Then they would have had time to do a read option play or possibly even a rollout, then another run on 4th if it comes to that.

Butler made an unbelievable play. Still tho im running the ball with lynch in that situation or spreading them out and do a read option with your two best players.

You don't think Russell Wilson could get two feet in three tries? Definitely would've been more efficient than what they did.

He could've, doesn't mean he would've, however I'm almost positive Marshawn Lynch would've scored.

Looking at this angle is brutal, Lockette definitely could have made a better attempt at catching it (he went to scoop it instead of catching it with his palms) but Butler made a great f---ing play (we already knew that but this angle makes it look even better)

it's crazy how Butler caught that ball with contact too. the way that vine ends before the actual catch, it looks like that ball is getting dropped and that's gonna be an incomplete (with the vine ending as the ball is wedged between his forearms).

    crazy play by butler.

Still a dumb play call to me. If you have to pass then roll Wilson out or at least play action.

What kind of coach would ever call for 3 sneaks in a row? Especially when you have Lynch on your team.
