Because he wants too much money, 33 going on 34 soon and has about only one more good season left in him.

Not showing up to OTA's as well and that goes against the culture Chip has brought about

He was still under contract though, was he not? A player of that caliber you should keep as long as you can. It's not like Philly has an immediate replacement for him either.

Yikes.... I mean players aren't required to show up to OTA's. Dez Bryant hasnt shown up to OTA's I don't think either lol would be outrageous if Cowboys cut him for that.

So after a season in which offensive line injuries was the #1 problem Chip Kelly has now released two great starters in Mathis and Todd Herremans. Mathis may have been our best overall lineman. What a f---ing idiot. Didn't draft or sign any replacements for them this offseason either.

Eagles had all the leverage in the Mathis situation. He's not gonna make anymore money than he would've with the contract he already had. Bad move.

    It's not that surprising.

It's like @Soldier said....it's all about their age.

Players who are 30+ are headed straight downhill. Football is short. Playing at a high level in the NFL is shorter

Although Evan Mathis was great, have no problem with releasing him. I have complete faith in Chip still until proven otherwise.

O Linemen can play @ a high level until their mid sometimes even late 30's. Mathis had a LEAST a couple more years left and he was still under contract. Eagles didn't have to release him. If I was an Eagles fan, I wouldn't be happy with this at all. You release your 2nd best O Linemen & one of the best LG's in the league with no one in place to take his spot? Makes absolutely no sense.

I'd love for the Vikings to pick up Mathis, they still need help on the o line and haven't really done anything to address it.

I told Timmy that Brady could miss half the season and the Pats would still win more games then the Vikings. He thought that was crazy, not sure why.

Rams are currently working on a long term deal for QB Nick Foles. Smart team.

    @redsoxx

I'm starting to think our secondary is going to look like this:

    Cornerbacks: McCourtey/Butler/Ryan on slot
    Safeties: Chung/Harmon

I hate Chung in coverage, but maybe they bring him up into the box again, as an extra linebacker to cover tight ends/backs. I really like Harmon in coverage. McCourtey can be a solid cornerback, and I honestly think Butler is good on number 2 options... Ryan is good against smaller receivers... They might be able to make this secondary work, the more I think about it.

I'm still excited about our front 7 though. Between Sheard, Jones, Hightower and if Mayo is healthy? Wow... And not to mention my favorite player of them all: Jamie Collins

    Ends: Jones/Sheard/Ninkovich/Grissom
    Tackles: Brown/Easley/Branch/Siliga
    Linebackers: Hightower/Collins/Mayo/Ninkovich

That's just crazy depth... I wish they would add one more solid linebacker... Spikes was perfect for it, but f--- him. I'm mostly worried about Mayo's health.

It still pisses me off that they just let Browner go. I know their reasoning behind it (he's not as good without a shut down cornerback) but he's also good for matchup purposes against bigger receivers.
