ryan fitzpatrick isn't too bad for a back-up. he's very erratic, tho. he's the type of QB who will come out and throw 3 TDs and 0 interceptions one game. and then the next game he'll throw 3 interceptions and 0 TDs

Lol poor Jets fans should have quit with Fireman Ed after the Pats dusted them in the butt-fumble thanksgiving game.

Did we get better this offeason? I guess we'll find out but SF will be competive. There's still a lot of talent and other than Gore, the other players that have left missed large chunks of the season or haven't been themselves. Even so I'm excited for Gores replacement, Hyde.
The new coaching staff adjusted to the oline departures and have moved to a zone blocking scheme, which fits more athletic lineman like Boone, Staley and Kilgore. Carlos Hydes running style is also better fit for zone blocking.

Jim Harbaugh-good coach and love the guy but he had to go. Stubborn as h--- and wouldn't change things that obviously weren't working. Last season SF was 3-13 in the second half of games. That's directly related to coaching and the inability to adjust to the other team.
SF again led the league in delay of game penalties. That number shouldve been higher but I don't think there's a stat for wasted timeouts to avoid a delay of game penalty. But if there is I'm sure SF would of been leading the league. Since Harbaugh took over SF's 1st down success has dropped every year with the exception of the 2nd half of 2012, when Kaepernick took over. 1st down success as far as the amount of yards gained on 1st down. Our 2nd, and 3rd downs have gotten more difficult each year. Very pridictable play calling on first down every year under Harbaugh and Roman. Not to mention shortly after he left it was reported by Tim Kawakami that Harbaugh had Roman calling the plays up to the redzone. Geep Chryst in the red zone, and Mike Solari calling goaline plays and wouldn't change it when asked to.

Tank Caradine should do fine replacing Justin Smith. Saw an article that said the teams average ypc allowed was less with tank in the lineup thaan with Justin Smith. We also get Dorsey back this season.

Cox leaving is fine. He'll get replaced by Brock who missed pretty much of last season. Another stat I saw (I'm on my phone and can't find it atm) was that since Brock became a starter in mid 2013 opposing QBs have lower QB rating throwin in his direction. than Revis and Sherman. Now I'm by no means saying Brock is either, just that he's really good corner that makes play after play. I feel good about either Johnson or Reaser replacing Culliver.
The one that really sucks though is losing Aldon but if Aaron Lynch continues to build on last year's impressive rookie season and Eli Harold plays as good as he's been in practice. Well then it will help take some of the sting away from having to release Aldon.

Torrey Smith brings the deep threat back so defense can't stack the box anymore. Kendall Hunter also comes back and gives us more speed on offense. Somthing this offense hasn't had since Moss and Walker left. Moss mayve been old hut safeties still had to respect him along with Ted Ginn. IMO reason 2012 was Crabtrees best statistical season.

I just don't see SF being as bad as everyone thinks. Could we be last on the NFCW. Sure but that's more credit to how good that division is. But SF will be competive.

He won't make the 53 man roster. Most likely be part of the final cuts. His only real use is kick/punt returns. Reggie Bush and Bruce Ellington already hand returns. Hayne has no use to us as a RB and he won't take a roster spot just for return duties.

Exactly. Remember when he actually played good for a month straight and the Bills overreacted and gave him $60 million? :'(

By the way Geno was not sucker punched. Sucker punched means you got punched when you weren't looking. Geno owed the guy money, didn't pay, and when the guy confronted him he put his finger in his face and got punched.

So where is Joker? Whose doing the pick'em and survivor threads this season? I'd just like to say I am the defending champ since I was in 1st in the pick'em standing when SL took a s---.

Randle & Dunbar are both back practicing lol during the season, neither of those injuries would have side lined them but it's training camp so they're just being precautious. The same way the Eagles sat Murray out of practice last week for dehydration.

There's a reason why I didn't mention Gore because he's the least of all the losses that 49er fans should be worried about. Hyde will be a fine replacement, never disputed that. A scheme change can only do so much, RT & LG are still holes that need to be filled. Pears wasn't very good last year in Buffalo, I can't see him being anymore effective in SF taking over the RT spot. The other option you guys have is the rookie Siberman but he's bound to have growing pains. At LG you have the 2nd year linemen Thomas but he's bound to having growing pains too considering he was injured all last season. Or you could go with Looney at LG but he struggled last year as well.

As lack luster as the offense was last season, it wasn't just the coaching, the players themselves didn't perform up to standards. O Line struggled, Kaep was average at best, Harbaugh may have been stubborn when it came to his coaching staff but this is the same staff that got you to 3 straight NFC Championships & a Super Bowl. His reliance in his coaching staff wasn't based off ignorance, it was based off very recent success & forcefully pushing him out the door without pursuing a more experienced replacement was a very dumb decision by the 49ers management. Tank Caradine is promissing & should do alright replacing Smith but that's yet another young player you're hoping to grow fast & step up.

Cox leaving is fine? He lead the 49ers in interceptions last year & was arguably your best corner. Now you have Brock who is good, if he can stay healthy, at left corner & Wright who was pretty bad last season for the Chargers (lead the league in pass interferences) at right corner. Not to mention you have Whilhoite starting at linebacker & he was sub par last season.

Like I said, i admire your optimism but you're asking an awful lot from your young guys & other players who traditional would just play back up roles or situational downs, to come in & be effective starters. Expecting players like Lynch or Harold to come in & immedately be able to fill Smith's shoes, it's not likely to happen. With the way this team is shaped & the lack of quality depth they have at numerous positions combined with the inexperienced coaching staff, I can't see them winning more than 8 games. I'd be surprise if they even got to 8 wins this season. Will they be competitive? Sure, to some degree but I've seen competitive teams just win 5 games before.
