I was thinking..... The NFL should remove Thursday Night Football and just make it Saturday Night Football. Players/coaches always complain about the short week which I completely understand and I think that switch would eliminate the complaints. I think it'd give us better games to watch as well because let's be honest, a 3 day prep is nothing. Give teams more time to be rested and prep and I think it'll result in better, more closer games to watch.

Alot of people go out on Friday and Saturday nights though, they're the worst nights for TV ratings.

So College football games would do better ratings on a Thursday night opposed to Saturday? The TV show comparison isnt relevant, ppl stay in on Saturdays to watch Football and have forever.

Thursday Night Football ratings have been s---.

People work on Thursday and tbh sounds like more of a personal problem lol. People gather to watch Sunday night football, don't see how it would be that much different with Saturday.

Not a single college game this season has remotely close to the average 10.0 rating (16 million viewers) of TNF on broardcast TV this year , guess you'll blame that on NFL being more popular though. It wouldn't be viable for college because people work during the day on Thursday and they'd have to compete with the NFL on Thursday nights.

Most people aren't working Thursday night when the games air?

.Saturday afternoon might work but alot of people like to go on Saturday nights since they don't have work on Sundays

Thursday Night football starts at 5:30 on the west coast. I know a lot of people that don't get off work till 6ish and miss half of the game because of traffic or having to pick up dinner after work for their family's etc. The NFL is big enough to the point where fans are going to watch games whenever they show them. If someone's team is playing Saturday Night, they are likely going to be watching the game lol. I really don't see the ratings being very different.

Aren't Thursday Night games only aired on NFL Network anyway though? They could just do the same thing with Saturday Night games, wouldn't effect anything with college football air times.

clearly airing them just on NFL Network wasn't working out for them that's why they gave the first 8 games to CBS, plus the NFL doesn't want to compete with college football, Jags vs Titans or Alabama vs. Auburn? Ya pretty sure NFL would lose that battle.

You realize college games are played on Thursdays....and the ratings are generally worse than the Saturday games...and the Saturday games are all fighting against each other because there are so many more teams and it's much more regional. You can't really compare college and pro. People revovle their nights around when their teams play...or when they go out - they go out to a bar that's showing football.

You'd be surprised, I think...not to mention your example is the extreme for both leagues. Even an average NFL match up would more than likely put up better ratings than Bama/Auburn.

Well obviously the Thursday night match ups this year were s--- and need to be better but that's for another discussion. NFL's fan base is much bigger than college ball though, I really don't think there'd be much completion at all.

To be fair to Joker, I looked up the ratings...

In primetime, on public channels, Auburn/Bama got 13 million views....Jags/Titans got only 5 million, on the NFL Netork.
So, it would be interesting if those were on at the same time, on basic cable channels...I think it'd be close to even. Even other good college matchups struggle to get 5 million viewers. College can't compete with the NFL (right now - this playoff may chance some of that).

Colts Cowboys blacked out on Direct TV FML. Raiders looking pretty good against Buffalo so far! Still laughing about SD taking SF down from behind last night.

Wow. If the Cowgirls score one more TD before the Colts can, i'd just bench all the starters if i was their head coach (can't remember his name).

Edit - unless they're still in the hunt. I have no clue what their situation is right now.
