Aug 16, 2021 According to the OP I'm not white, so here's my hot take on racism as a somewhat mixed race American: In the vast majority of cases, modern racism in America is subtle, casual, and unintentional (so basically "microaggressions"). Most nonwhites probably don't even notice it or shrug it off, and those who do take it to heart are just thin-skinned sissies. Your friend probably has an inferiority complex, and it's not necessarily the case that this complex was externally imposed by racism per se. Overt racism (especially in the form of targeted harassment, spontaneous violent hate crimes, and racially motivated police brutality) is pretty rare. The media would have you believe it's rampant here, but in reality there's no actual epidemic of wanton police violence aimed at the black demographic in this country. The KKK is a ghost of its former self, and the racial right has very little in the way of real power and seems to have no intention of taking to the streets and rioting any time soon. Most instances of racism you hear about from the left are just microaggressions, and in many cases complete fabricated bs. For my part, I've never encountered overt targeted racism in real life. But I did encounter it on this forum, and unlike the left would have predicted, it didn't turn me into a criminal, it didn't lower my IQ, and it didn't lower my self-esteem. It did help me get unbanned though. But I don't chalk online racism up to a larger problem in society. In most cases it's just cyberbullying/shitposting.
