What? Okay yeah you're right, the definition of "try hard" is to attempt and fail. Ya got me. But I meant that showing signs of effort isnt something thats always a detractor.

Often times many people come as thinking effortless = gold, effort = lame

Execution of TPAB failed in a few specific areas.

You've ALWAYS painted it as entirely flawed. And I'm glad you got @Swizz to finally agree, because he 100% didnt for at least the first month the album was out. But anyways...

Yeezus is Kanye's 2nd/3rd best album has never been your. foh lmao

No I was suggesting you get embarrassed by things easily

My standards for Kendrick are pretty high 2 m8

But with the way you think I called TPAB a "classic" multiple times only proves how adamant you are on carrying the cross of deconstructing TPAB's hype.

I SPECIFICALLY DIDNT call the album a classic or give it my rating or ANYTHING. lmfao. The most you'll find even if you look at my posts about it is the fact that I loved it. plain and simple. Which I did/do.

I wrote a lot about TPAB, for the blog and the forum, because it deserved the coverage. And its one of the best albums of the year.

Dont put words in my mouth to discredit me.

You actually said the phrases "not a single song on TPAB works," "Yeezus is awful (or comparable adjective)" etc etc.

You're right, I meant in that he knows what hes repurposing and why he wanted to go this direction for his GKMC follow up. all eyes were on him etc

i know that doesnt have any role in judging the music critically though. but you seem to be very into authorial intent this time around so i touched on his "self awareness"

Once again these were my standards for not being embarrassed.

Whole premise of the post was to stop getting "embarrassed" at things just so you can actively try and paint your own narrative it.

If it isn't tunnel vision then how did it come out so tone deaf in your opinion? Seems like neither answer is sufficient enough on its own...he was aware of the social impact he wanted to make etc, but he was tone deaf (which im saying goes hand in hand with having tunnel vision) when it comes to the execution.

this is why tracks like HMADC exist

    l
    1) why is u bad
    2) why is i bad
    3) lmfao rofl etc
    4) at this point i already said the self-awareness was re: him trying to place his album in context before it even came out. thats the feeling i get from this record/the build up to it/its reception/his interviews (the things where other people have conversations with kendrick for me).

obviously the album wasnt some wholly personal tale. it wasnt meant to be. it attempted to tie the type of narrative found on GKMC with the broader strokes you mentioned.

never said i liked the interview either.

just also never said it embarrassed me. thought it was unnecessary/sloppy/didnt get across the vibe it couldve

    because, imo:

    this isnt true

    :emoji_thumbsup:
    lol, no

i agree; i think he's such a talented rapper and writer that he's made brilliant music in spite of that. (he also wouldn't be alone in this.) but it sinks butterfly.

Not just you at all. That's why I valued King Kunta so much - it's one of the only moments on the album that DOESN'T feel humorless and moralizing.

I mean, the homeless man who turns out to be God after the big reveal? The repeated "hotel room" pseudo-poetry? The amateurish Lucy thing? The totally unsubtle, straight-faced spelling out of the caterpillar s--- at the very end of the album? Guys, this was not very well-executed lol

Just had a relisten of tpab, I definitely was on the hype train when it came out. It's a good album, imo, but no where as good as gkmc or s80. Can't compare to 1989, haven't listened to that.

He wasnt always like this so it was probably a calculated change in execution. Which didnt pan out as well as he thought it would. if he thinks it did, that is a lack of self awareness yeah

but kendricks kind of been slowly going down this path so i am scared tbh :ohno:

@Narsh what the h--- are you talking about re: an opinion change from me? I feel the same way as I felt about the album the day it dropped. I'm one of the few.

And how are you going to say the end of the album is sloppy and unnecessary while also trying to argue that it isn't inherently flawed? That doesn't even make sense lol

inherently flawed means that it could never be executed properly. interview could have.

and no swizz, you didnt. you enjoyed the album more than disliked it, and stated as much. you had reservations sure. that doesnt make you special. a lot of people did, including me and taylor. we were just happy enjoying the album lol

when yeezus came out, i didn't particularly like it, but as i said MULTIPLE times on and off sl, i felt like i hadn't wrapped my head around it. that's why i specifically avoided reviewing it at the time of its release. (i've talked about this at length on the board so you really have no excuse for making up nonsense.) when i finally felt comfortable reviewing it, in august, i wrote a near-rave.

@Swizz isn't it nice of narsh to lecture you about what your opinions were?

tbh I remember Swizz not liking it much, then coming around to it after a few listens but still not thinking it's the greatest album ever like everyone else did.

I am telling you, flat out, my opinion on this album hasn't changed. My post history is there - dig into it. You're not going to find anything contradicting what I'm saying in this thread.

i apologize if you didn't explicitly say the word "classic" but your praise was so cartoonishly over-the-top that i think my mistake is understandable.

bruh do you realize how many words/phrases you borrow from me in your writing lololololol

also, @WPG wants to talk about hypocrisy and 100% ignored the point where I never called TPAB a classic :'(:'(:'(

at least im referencing things that actually happened to some degree.

i specifically said that people calling the album a classic were morons.

    but okay guy

Ha!! These dudes actually like to digest albums before reviewing them, and sometimes even change their opinions after critical reflection!

Can't trust a thing they say.
