Feb 25, 2016 When they can put on us soil they have a right to a lawyer etc. we have to give them that right due to the constitution. Moving them off of Guantanamo gives them a ray of hope to get out of prison due to reasons and factors we don't have control over. I think it's a dumb move to give terrorists to us soil. You can disagree all you want and give me facts and articles all day, but once they get a lawyer it's open season for them to utilize the full extent of their rights. Which they most certainly shouldn't have
Feb 25, 2016 a lot of the Guantanamo recluses even hadn't a trial and are sentenced to be there for the rest of their life
Feb 25, 2016 But we've already established that them moving to prisons on U.S. soil likely won't happen due to congress and other legal issues. The transferring of gitmo detainees to other countries to be prisoned still remains a logical possibility though. But even let's say the transferring of detainees to prisons on U.S. soil were realistic, your main complaint with that is your lack of confidence in our courts to prosecute such terrorists, even though they've done exactly that in the past????
Feb 25, 2016 Thing is, it's broken and needs to be fixed. It's costing too much money to keep the place open for a mere 91 detainees. The money would be better spent elsewhere.
Feb 25, 2016 About 2 days ago I saw a red (pretty sure it was hyundai Getz) car and on the back your avatar was a sticker. Friend of yours?
Feb 25, 2016 not only it violates human rights, it is in cuban territory illegally - i dont see anyone in the thread talking about that second fact
Feb 25, 2016 I think it's gotten to the point where he's put off doing it for so long in order to get other things done (Wallstreet reform, bringing back the auto industry, healthcare, campaign for his second term, etc.) that it might be to late. Hopefully I'm wrong but there's no longer bi-partisan support to close gitmo like there was when he first took office. That's going to be an issue.
Feb 25, 2016 I disagree. The money is literally the least of the issues. It may sound good to save 500 million $ but its a microcosm of the federal budget. If those terrorists that are there aren't plotting or what have you then it's pretty much doing its job
Feb 25, 2016 That may be true to a degree, but Gitmo spawns even more terrorists, since radical Islamists use it for propaganda.
Feb 26, 2016 Oh ok. Didn't give a s--- to even look at the OP tbh. Hopefully they get shipped nearby ya'll. See how terrorist threats go then. lmao
Feb 26, 2016 when they could be housed in another prison we don't shell out this kind of extra money for, it is definitely broken and needs fixing
