come on this the type of thread you see on Rap Genius. There can never be a greatest rapper of all time, no one will ever agree on it.

Yeah but that's because stans will always be there to say "Em is the best" and there are people who will say "He isn't". In a stan free world we would all agree that nas is the goat.

I'm not big into the south sound.

That's what it comes down to, people have different preferences so there are a lot of regional artists who are reasonable nominations for best of all time but in the end no one can truly agree completely.

Like for me I'm respecting Outkast but here I am thinking

How can you say objectively greatest when Biggie has objectively (imo for ex) best hip hop album and hip hop double album of all time and flawless discog where both projects are some peeps favorite ALBUM OF ALL TIME.

Then I say how you disrespecting Ghostface Killah when he was a founding Wu member on an arguable top album OAT then went on to release his own GOAT calibre albums over three generations? That don't happen round here

It varies on the person as long as they have a clue what they're talking about you can make a case from several different perspectives.

Something unbiased, not based on personal feelings but based on facts.
Subjective is the opposite and is pretty much someones opinion.

People constantly use the world objectively wrong when talking about music. There is no truly objective way to rate/rank music so its always bs when someone goes "illmatic is objectively the best album of all time" etc.

There's arguments to be made for great music being the greatest, but yeah, just going off the definition you literally can't say objectively the best lol

But there are objective aspects to supporting an album....acclaim, impact, testimonies from people that matter, rankings from publications etc

it's really just a figure of speech, no one really takes into account the definition when talking about their music opinion lol

There is no objective way to measure acclaim or impact. Peoples testimonies are subjective, rankings from publications are subjective. Everything you said is subjective. I see it as an excuse for not having a decent argument when people use it wrong.

I think people who get mad at using the word "objective" when describing music are just people who get mad when other people are able to realize/say how much their favorite artists s---. Absoul for example
