Aug 13, 2020 I also liked Cody's portrayal of champion fatigue in his match with scorpio. Alot of times when I watch a wrestler and especially with a title changing hands it doesn't always translate why he lost, at least to me. Alot of times theyll have moments where a previous match will be mentioned or theyll reference an injury that doesnt necessarily get shown. Here however I truly felt that it's only a matter of time before cody meets his match just from the sheer volume of matches he has and the variety of opponents. Hes definitely probably the hardest working wrestler on their roster
Aug 13, 2020 I love he's using this title to put over talent even in loss. His defense matches have been stellar. I was a little dubious when they put the belt on him but as you said, the story telling has been stellar with good matches to boot. Who you got to dethrone him?
Aug 13, 2020 Honestly I have no idea seeing as how he doesn't have a legitimate rivalry or hasnt had one since maybe mjf? I like the spontaneity of the matches but I think the only downside to his way of defending is that I know that hes not losing to lower tiered wrestlers or these indy guys. I can honestly see him lose to brodie lee (but retaining) and maybe losing definitively in a rematch on ppv. I like the idea of it being defended often but I hate "hot potato" championship reings, it's so hard for me to take that type of title seriously or to be excited by a champion
Aug 13, 2020 Another issue I have is how they feed their new acquisitions to moxley or cody. They spend so much time and effort building up archer, lee or cage only to have them lose when it matters. I'd prefer if they didnt put them on the big stage yet if that's what they're going to do every time. You dont even see those guys much after their big losses. Weird booking to me
Aug 13, 2020 The three you mentioned have so much potential. I will say Taz as a manager was better than I ever thought it would be. I hope the FTW title becomes a thing and they're simply holding off during the pandemic before pulling the trigger on some big plans.

He was acting like a huge jerk the last month or so and now hes kidding around with the other announcers like his edge is gone. Or maybe that was just animosity toward jon and not a full on heel turn
Aug 13, 2020 They need to get a few big names to build up the young ones. Cassidy could carry any title. Spears has honestly let me down. AEW is fantastic but it needs to start anning stars better than just feeding them to Mox otherwise they'll be in WWEs troubled waters.
Aug 13, 2020 Opinion on jericho and the inner circle? I find them to be kinda useless. Sammy is by far the most interesting person in that group but I cant take any of the other guys serious. Jericho is almost a caricature of his former self and as a wrestler to me at this point. Whenever I watch him I know I'm watching a scripted show and I hate that. Hes definitely in the conversation for goat but hes just not doing it for me any more and I don't think his crew pack the heat to be taken as serious threats. Jake is boring, proud and powerful are goof balls and sammy eats way too many pins BUT he has so much room to grow, hes going to be amazing if and when he goes the will osprey route and goes heavyweight-ish
Aug 13, 2020 I agree, I think their biggest "homegrown" or indy talent is by far Darby Allen, that's somebody who I believe in whethervhecwins or loses. He always steals the show and his triumph is going to be gigantic when he finally gets it. I really feel like hes earning his place as opposed to being "pushed" or groomed I guess. I do hate his coffin drop as a finisher though
Aug 13, 2020 I loved the inner circle when they started up. Even those bubbly bunch segments were gold. Jericho also did amazing at the debate last week but as for the group, they've lost steam. Sammy and Matt feud could be really good but I think the lack of a crowd is really messing things up. Matt dropped the broken because of no crowds and a good heel group really needs those Boos. LAX too. They are a serious hard hitting tag team and they're being used for comedy and not been made to look threatening. I love Jericho still so I can't agree with that part but inner circle needs work.
Aug 13, 2020 I honestly dont want them to go the friend turned foe route with cody again. We've already gotten that with mjf and spears. I'm really curious how cody is used once he loses the title. He has a 17-1 record but he cant challenge for the heavyweight title. Where does he go from here? It feels like he has a ceiling andv it's odd. Hes hypothetically at the top of the mountain or at the least, in the conversation but theres no reward for it. Unless he turns heel then I could maybe see some growth/character development
Aug 13, 2020 I think being able unable to compete for the world title makes for an interesting story. A Mox and Cody rivalry is another one I want. I think the ceiling you talk about could be switched and used in a story. Where Cody has nowhere to go and nothing to achieve in AEW. Them building up cage as a machine and giving us enough time to forget the Mox loss, could mean Cody goes crazy and challenges for the FTW title and gets destroyed. I think there's so many options and it's not a bad thing for him to have a ceiling.

Aug 14, 2020 Yeah, I was worried about this when he won the title but its being used to elevate so it isn't all bad yet. Cody's record is like 17-1 which is quite worrying in terms of them getting mcmahon boosts

Everyone he wrestles is elevated and it's not like hes had a bunch of high profile feuds with the likes of an omega, Jericho, moxley etc. Ita mostly been indy guys recently and younger talents. HHH never did that

Aug 14, 2020 This is true. On a side note were you impressed by Dustin? His and Cody's match at Double or Nothing was a slobber knocker. I was shocked at how main event he felt after years of Gold dust. I totally agree with this. He's an incredible heel. Cody and Brodie seems to be happening. Brodie can't honestly afford another clean loss.
Aug 14, 2020 I'd have to watch it again to see how I feel about it but I remember being shocked at the performance that he was capable of putting on; not only at his age but from him being gold dust for so long. I think my only problem with most of Cody's matches is that they're so overbooked. The buildups are almost always on point 200% but the actual matches kinda lack and I think ita bc hes not at that level and I dk that he evee will be. Hes a master at promos and generating sympathy but sometimes I think he lays it on too thick and he overcompensates in his matches with too many antics. I go back to the nick aldi's match where brandi was laid on top of cody begging him not to drop the elbow, it's just corny af to me and I realllllly hate that aspect of cody .I cant see brodie taking another clean loss either, I kinda wish hed make cody run a gauntlet to prove himself a fighting champion or to be good enough to face lee. Of course brodie would have to light a fire under his a--- to make cody even want to do that but I guess thats already been done with mjf
