I've been going through Omega's run over the last month or so. I've seen like 30 something matches and short of a few 6/8 man tags, they've pretty much all been incredible. Can work every style, always matches who he's facing, and his high flying, heavyweight move-set is so fun to watch. Got a perfect look when he switched over to The Cleaner gimmick in addition to a superstar aura that would dwarf almost anyone in the WWE right now. The total package if there ever was one.

the mans ask for a date to start watching the product not a link to every good njpw match ever

nah im just playing but really this spreadsheet is amazing when you/IF you actually get into NJPW because it links to all of the highest rated matches with the events and competitors and such

ill go ahead and tag the jabronis @Sign Language and @AdultishGambino just so they are forced to see the sheer amount of quality and ease of finding literally right infront of them

so @Pinhead didnt know you were such a big kenny (njpw?) fan. his match vs Ishii and ofcourse the epic against Okada are clear frontrunners for MOTY in my opinion. Have you seen any of the matches from Okada's current title reign? man has been on fire

The Ishii match is my MOTY!

I'm conflicted with Okada. On one hand, 15 years of Cena has brainwashed me into hating the company guy. That chiseled, short haired, company boy look is usually a major turnoff. There are only a few things in his arsenal that impress me, yet by the end of his matches I can't help but accept that he really is the best wrestler in the world. As much as I wanted Shibata to win their match, by the end I was shaking my head at how much of a king Okada was. The sequencing, the reversals, the endurance, like holy s---. Shibata was right there, but O was clearly leading that match from point A to point B.

Aside from some issues with the Suzuki match, it's been a near flawless run since G1 last year. It's amazing.

I completely understand both the Cena comparison as well as Cena forcing me to hate this pretty boy poster child prototype (Cena made me quit WWE cold turkey in the late 2000s for literally years). It's funny because like you said on the surface Okada isn't super impressive or awe-inspiring, it's more of an excellence of execution kind of thing. The details. He is like the perfect mold for anyone to use to create a 4.5+* match. Like you said every match Okada almost becomes the heel because you're excited for the other guy to win but he plays such a good underdog taking all that s--- and then you want him to win in the end.

He may not be the most colorful or astounding guy ever but he has mastered what he does in the ring from start to finish. After these past few title defences you just gotta hand him #1 in the world over AJ and Kenny imo

I just finished watching the Omega and Itchii match, I had a hard time getting into it though. Some of it felt clumsy to me and I find that Kenny strikes me more as an actor than a wrestler. I'm not implying that he's not good I just feel like he's putting on more of a show than he is a match. Also I couldn't help but notice he took quite a few bumps on his head with the powerbomb, German suplex and one other move. Is the clothesline considered really powerful in njpw? I notice alot of emphasis is pit on it and the various knee maneuvers

    Best match ever y'all

Keep watching. The match is "clumsy" because it's Kenny matching Ishii's borderline s---t style. He's an actual fighter, came into the company at a point where NJPW was basically MMA. Kenny's gimmick right now with The Elite is evolving wrestling and being the best performer on the planet. When he faces someone like Ishii, he's going to show that he can do a lot more than just fly or overpower people in his weight class. It felt more like a show because it wasn't supposed to be a traditional wrestling match.

spot on. @Raziel you probably aren't used to subtle changes of match style to match the story or the opponents (i.e. not something WWE does). In NJPW it's common for wrestlers to 'wrestle eachothers match' and try to one-up them with their own style. And you have to realize, not only is Japan wrestling a LOT more physical (and yes, allows for the talent to take a TON of falls on their head) but a lot of them are actual mixed martial artists and legit tough guys. Like, a LOT of them. It's nothing for a guy like Okada to defend is title and then collapse when he gets backstage. They literally beat and slam the s--- out of eachother.

The clothesline is one of Ishii's finishing maneuvers. The Rainmaker the Okada does (short arm clothesline) is the biggest finisher in the business. It's just a thing. Partly the reason why knee strikes are seen as powerful is due to their s---t-fighting origins. That's where a lot of NJPW matches draw inspiration from. (trading of elbows, lots of technical 'feeling out' of the opponent, etc. etc.) NJPW is presented as a sport in Japan. They have before and after match press conferences and everything.

Now as far as Kenny goes, I can understand your criticism. He's very animated, both with his body and face, sometimes past the point of realism. His strongest aspect as well as his achilles heel is that he always goes nonstop full speed.

OH YEAH ALMOST FORGOT: Sometimes the matches look clumsy because the guys are really wrestling eachother and trying to make it legitimate as can be. You're just not used to matches being worked like two guys really wanting to get the upper hand on eachother.

not at all man, like I've said before, I haven't watched wrestling in d--- near 15 years and after the death of the attitude era and the steep fall off in quality I had pretty much given up on my love of the sport. So to watch these guys and actually believe in it again is really fun to me. Tag me in whatever lol I appreciate all of it @Changeling
