You said it yourself, we should leave what happened in the past, in the past.

But, that's the point. Penn State is digging the past back up to honor this man.

Listen, nobody is, or should, criticize you for going to football games or having fun at Penn State. I don't think anyone in this thread is arguing that. If anyone hates on you for GOING TO or HAVING FUN or GETTING AN EDUCATION at Penn State, they're morons.

HOWEVER, you're actively defending that you're going to honor a man who ignored the r--- and molestation of 50+ victims. At least that's how you're making it sound.

Who cares if you party or root for them, but to sit here and defend Paterno's actions, or lack thereof, just because he was a good college football coach is crazy.

Nobody is going to think you're a downer if you don't honor him. There's not much to honor.

And just so you know, Paterno admitted that he knew about this abuse back in 2001, which I think he knew further back, which a victim claims he confided in Joe back in 1976, but Joe said "I have a football season to worry about"

Your school also defended Sandusky and covered up his abuse, even during the investigation. Penn State didn't comply at all during the investigation. It was weird.

It's so weird that Penn State wants to do this. This university stuck by Sandusky to the end. You would've thought they would've learned their lesson, and would've let this s--- stay in the past.

You said that you didn't care or know much about this case, well maybe you should do some research instead of turning a blinds' eye? Then again, that's what Paterno didn't do, so...

What your student body SHOULD DO is turn their backs on the honorary ceremony. As much as he did for your university, he ruined it's image also, and he enabled the pain and suffering for decades. Turn your back during the ceremony, then cheer on your team and party after.

^couldnt have said it any better.

And that's my gripe with penn state. They refuse to admit their hero, joe pa, despite what he did for the university, turned a blind eye to child molestation. Also, growing up and living in PA, I have to deal with that s--- everyday. It didn't help attending the same high school and having your football coach be the dad of PSU all time leading tackler, Dan Connor.

I personally thought Penn St was doing a solid job and wiping the slate clean, but guess not.

Like when this was happening, they kept fighting against the investigation, but it was like they got humbled every day and finally just gave in.

Now it's like they're fighting back again. Why?

They refuse to let Paterno die. You literally can't talk to PSU people around here. All you get is "I'm getting a Harvard tier education, we have a top 3 football program of all time, and to top it all off we party harder than any other college." It's ridiculous, for one one the education is pretty good but cut the s---. Two, the football program has faded to irrelevance and Joe Pa let disgusting things go on just for the sake of keeping the football program out of trouble. Look how well that turned out. Three, it is a fun school to visit with out question, but it's no different than any other big time school, and southern schools go way harder than PSU, no doubt.

The weird part about them honoring Paterno is that this is the first year without any punishments from the Sandusky situation and people are finally starting to get past it, but then they have to go and do this. Stupid.

Bro, this is why penn state continues to get ridiculed. Paterno knew, the coach under him saw Sandusky literally f---ing a child and the proceeded to tell Paterno. Victims have testified that they themselves told Paterno. He quite clearly knew. The whole administration found out years ago and forced Sandusky into retirement, but then proceeded to still fly him out on program $$$ to camps and such where he continued to r--- children. So if you wanna hide behind "Paterno never admitted it therefore he's innocent" then that's pathetic. I know you're not a stupid person so connect the dots and stop letting your bias blind you. Joe Pa enabled kids to be r---d just so he could keep the football program from being in the news for bad reasons.

i really do think the whole joe pa honoring is absolutley ridiculous because i just want people to forget about it, our football program has suffered so much from this, let alone our entire school.

Look I understand you're in college, it's a party school with a popular football program. I went to college, I played football, I get it, and that was a small school. I'm sure the parties there are crazy and you don't wanna think negative or ruin a party.

But, from an outsider perspective, it's kinda like what is Penn State thinking? It makes the school look awful and is bringing this all back up.

Trust me, you guys would have a dope party without a Joe Pa tribute lol

im actually curious to how they honor him. i don't know the whole story like i said, but i feel like joe pa loved this school and the football program so much that he swept Sandusky's acts under the rug just to save it. i agree that is a disgusting thing to do, but he was really just a good guy in an awful situation and there's no denying that. in the end, he did something very wrong, and that outweighs anything he did for our school. that's how i see it now.
