Dec 16, 2015 You're kind of misunderstanding me. When I say discussing the politics should be left separate, I don't mean we shouldn't discuss the fact that the album IS political, or the context. Of course context is important, and many classics are classics partly for that reason. I'm saying that the actual political statements, (i.e. whether Kendrick is right or wrong about a certain arguments he's making), should not matter. When you or pitchfork gets up in arms about the blacker the berry, or the FOX News people throw a tantrum over Alright, that's totally missing the point. To be fair to you, you've said you like TBTB. EDIT: @captain awesome
Dec 16, 2015 but you're missing the point that most of the critical writing on kendrick, while i think it's been wrong, has satisfied what you're looking for. everyone knows it gets muddled and deliberate. everyone knows he has politically questionable lines on there. and they're still lavishing praise on the album. when i get "up in arms" about it? i think the song's politics, at least at the climax, are iffy. i also think it's a very good song, with the politics being central to his writing. are you incapable of holding competing thoughts in your head?
Dec 16, 2015 Well...exactly. That's why I don't complain when TPAB is winning these accolades. I don't know about it being "muddled". And deliberate about what? About it being political? I don't think thats by definition a bad thing. Did you not read what I just wrote? I gave you credit for this.
Dec 16, 2015 yeah, i read what you wrote, and you said i was "up in arms" about the song. and the album's writing is deliberate in the sense that...you know, lucy is lucifer and the homeless man is jesus etc etc etc
Dec 16, 2015 1)Dr. Dre- Compton 2)The Game-The Doc 2 (both discs) 3)Scarface- Deeply Rooted 4)Yelawolf- Love Story 5) Kendrick- TPAB
Dec 16, 2015 I respect your tastes and preferences. Now let's talk about the objective ranking in terms of quality: 1) TPAB the rest objectively of course. On the real, stop mentioning this thrash of Compton... there's a reason if its not even craking the top 30 of any list
Dec 16, 2015 King Kendrick taking too many W's. thats what I been saying for years, if you drop the best album of the year, then you'll be praised as f---.
Dec 16, 2015 tbh... Tpab is like twice as good as compton, doc2,deeply rooted & love trashstory combined.
Dec 16, 2015 Lol this clown really likes Compton... even people like me who grew up on Dre been saying Compton is the biggest disappointment of the year.
Dec 16, 2015 You know whats most impressive about this album? it's that the jazz on this album is better than the best jazz album of the year. But then again the most celebrated & praised jazz album of 2015 is the debut album of Kamasi who also worked on To p---- A Butterfly
Dec 16, 2015 Yah as a whole I was really feelin Compton and The Game's album sorry if I offended anyone
Dec 16, 2015 not surprising to see that @Perry The Platypus 's arguments still cripple under further questioning, he stopped responding entirely
Dec 16, 2015 Im just trying to move on with my day, but if you insist on heckling me, you could at least answer the question I already asked you.
Dec 16, 2015 Nah, I think it's well deserved. The review is whatever, I don't take much from pitchfork reviews since they ALWAYS seem to focus on one specific attribute of an album but regardless, I still think TPAB is great. It's an album of controversy that will continue to be discussed/debated for years.
Dec 17, 2015 i liked deeply rooted and love story but no way theyre better than tpab imo. good to see someone still enjoys compton tho doc 2 was amazing.
