Well if he is an objective reviewer he should give his honest opinion if he doesn't agree :stephena:

Yeah I know. I think this album would've got BNM, but Pitchfork writers are too sjw.

    *raises hand*

    i would've given this ~9.0

also, for the record, "sjw" is a stupid dismissal in all contexts, but esp. this one: the complaint that "my collection" is grating is very fair and frankly pretty obvious

But I'm referring to more the "slut-shaming" issue that the author raises.

Edit: And I think the "my collection" line is corny, but that's all. Rap is kinda grating. But this is just IMO.

Sometime I heard that it's like multiple P4K writers vote and then you do the average or perhaps a member that is kinda middle ground gets to do the review. Is that kinda how it goes?

um, yes, that's what i'm referring to too.

art doesn't have to reflect your social or political beliefs to connect with you. but if you're listening closely, of course that stuff is going to at least register with you, whether it affects your appraisal or not. (and in this case, the review is still very positive, so it's not like she docked him for it.) but it's a characteristic of the record, and any good critic would mention it.

i think Ironman is one of the ~25 best rap albums ever. so is Criminal Minded, which i just wrote about. both have moments that are insanely misogynistic (and, in the latter case, homophobic). that doesn't make me knock the records, but it's a characteristic and i'd be an idiot to not note that.

and no that's not at all how the scoring works.

I think to complain about slut-shaming is a very SJW thing to do, that's all.

"Even if I hit you once you're part of my collection" would be pretty cringeworthy with no context (like if it was a drake song about a nameless girl) but the context is the entire point. He starts off an insecure, possessive a------ and you're supposed to think he's a scumbag, and he grapples with this until you reach "Sorry" and admits he f----- up.

well, let's dispense with the buzzwords and talk in real terms: what future does there is reduce women's actions to a very very narrow framework but spend a whole album explaining the nuances of his internal life. it doesn't matter whether you think that's bad or not, but it's an important characteristic of the album to note. it informs the whole thing.

exactly. but by @paulye's account we should not note that the arc is set up that way because it's a "sjw" thing to say.
