Jan 25, 2020 Good review @WPG that score is complete Stan bait. It is funny, but imo it takes away from your professionalism as a writer.
Jan 25, 2020 It’s not, but let’s say it is. It still wasn’t enough to save her from one of the worst verses I’ve ever heard. That’s no hyperbole. The verse is pure garbage, and you refusing to acknowledge that has me questioning your integrity as a reviewer. I don’t buy it. I remember the early days of Studioleaks, and your narrative was different back then.
Jan 25, 2020 I mean the actual review is well written, but some of the takes are kinda off imo... The final rating is definitely too low, especially when Revival's score is a 5 lol.
Jan 25, 2020 Yeah let’s be honest here. That verse from young M.A is terrible. Right? Or do I just not get it?
Jan 25, 2020 Whats weird with that verse its that its exactly the kind of verse eminem disses when he disses mumble rap
Jan 25, 2020 Who gives a f--- about critics anyway? Especially EM has never been well judged by critics. A lot of people sh---ed at TES for example back in the day. EM is way to unique in his style to be praised by the majority of critics. He's not that great of an musician, he's the most talented MC. And today it's way more important to be catchy and melodic than be good at writing, punchlines, storytelling or whatever. Look at the metascore for TES for example. 75. The same score as TLOP from Kanye. That's ridiculous. MMLP is barely better judged by "critics". That was always the case with EMs work and will never change. MTBMB is a great album. Period.
Jan 25, 2020 Actually Ed’s hook on this album is great and a good beat. If a good rapper actually rapped over the beat, the song would be a top 10 billboard hit. Eminem’s flow is so inconsistent and goes off beat. He raps about the most stupid s--- during the song. If Drake rapped over the beat for example, it’d be a number one club hit. Edit: Eminem clearly thought this Ed collab was going to be a huge hit. You know he’s raging right now with it being sh---ed on and unheard of. He’ll have some excuse for it why on his next s--- album.
Jan 25, 2020 i don’t spent very much time thinking about scores, but based on pitchfork’s internal guidelines, i think 5.5 is correct — anything receiving a 6 or higher is a “good” album. it is. charisma, whatever you want to call it — someone’s voice is included in this — is a huge part of what makes a rapper effective. you can get to be one of those nerds who grades everything on a rubric but that’s just not how art works. complain to guru. yeah, i have no idea what you’re listening to. that verse, like a B*** of her work last year, is magnetic. i was literally notorious on rap basement for not liking eminem.
Jan 25, 2020 Ummm, Eminem obviously does. He made an entire call of duty type soundtrack album from everyone shi--ing all over revival. I forget the name of the album after revival. Some of you stans are so f---ing delusional. He’s at least going in the right direction with this new album. Minus the love songs, which he’ll stop because he’s being completely slaughtered by critics over imaginary women he’s talking about.
Jan 25, 2020 And why, pray tell, couldnt this be called a good album? Why being so stingy with "good" if by your own admission this was not a negative review? Its not excellent, not above average, not great, but not even good? C'mon man
Jan 25, 2020 it’s an album with — what — two good songs? maybe three? there’s plenty of very good rapping and only a few instances of him being outright bad. but making a good album is hard! i don’t think he’s there right now.
Jan 25, 2020 Rap album with plenty of good rapping sounds like a good album. Oh and by the way, you quote Chloraseptic "conned her into ripping that condom in two" in a negative way. Chloraseptic is a great song, that part and "what kind of nut drives a budweiser truck" are perfect.
