TPAB is one of the most ambitious records in recent history. And it's political context struck a chord with countless people. It's not that hard to fathom why TPAB is in the position that it's in re: hip hop cannon.

How good it actually is is besides the point.

i think he's definitely "artistically good enough" to hire people to write jazz influenced compositions for him

Kendrick really challenged himself with the stylistic shift in production and the work paid off greatly.

that's literally the biggest pitfall of the album though. he challenged himself for sure but the pay off, over time, is clearly lacking. it's less focused, the narrative is too sprawling, the writing too on the nose, etc.

the music on TPAB is almost uniformly great, it's kendrick who struggles to match the progressiveness without shoehorning in the concepts he aimed to convey. Where his rapping should feel liberated it feels more restrained and tightly wound than ever before. It works in parts, but not as a whole.

people who know far more about musical composition than I do say it's one of the most brilliant albums in recent memory...yet I don't give a f--- about that s---.

Tpab is my favorite kendrick project because I like it the most, simple as that :idk:

    Examples?

My musical taste is just constantly changing and I'm discovering new artists, there's nothing weird about it

It is common for young people (see Luke) to overrate stuff they enjoy at some point

and tbh, I disagree with literally everything narsh said...also one of the rare times I disagree with him :idk:

Kdot actually matches the progressiveness perfectly imo

TPAB is just a mediocre album the only reason why I'm trashing it so hard is for its fanbase and Kendrick's previous records

Also because it's the cool thing to do :happypepe:
