For the past year or so, it's been pretty unanimous that MMLP2 was the worst album and biggest disappointment of Eminem's career. It's hard to deny because the album has so many flaws, but I think we're forgetting just how big of a let down Relapse was. MMLP2 was bad for many reasons (the only songs I'd consider average-above average are Bad Guy, Berzerk, Rap God, and Baby), but Relapse was supposed to be his return to the throne. He was armed with PLENTY of things to talk about, 24 of the best beats Dre had produced in years up to that point, and he decides to become an arabic r--ist serial killer?

Relapse is better overall, but I still think that it was a much bigger disappointment than MMLP2.

I think it's a fair question though. Both albums had tremendous hype that they failed to live up to.

MMLP2 isnt bad at all. Relapse is good for what it is. Encore should be in the list that's the real disappointment especially after coming off TES

    MMLP 2.

Relapse is the only post hiatus album that has actually grown on me, and I didn't hate it on release either.

Although I rate it above both Relapse and MMLP 2, Encore was a much bigger disappointment considering the three great albums it followed

@Poohdini Actually.. When I think about it MMLP2 just because of it's name. Cant call your album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and not have it be amazing

What do you mean when you say it's good for what it is? I agree Encore was a disappointment, but that leak was a major reason for it being so bad. Besides Deja Vu, the good songs on Encore are much better than the good songs on Relapse or MMLP2.

If you look at it as a concept/horrorcore album then its GOAT.

    relapse because I like MMLP2

but if anyone thought MMLP2 had a chance of being as good as MMLP, they are really f---ing stupid. relapse was more of a let down because it was supposed to be the new and improved Eminem, coming back full force after almost dying and s---

True, but Encore had Evil Deeds, Never Enough, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers, and Spend Some Time.

Nice thread! Relapse only because it was his comeback album and he failed to deliver in that aspect. Instead, he came back with something completely from left field. It's still a great album though.

    Why?
Exactly. Between Relapse & MMLP2 I can't find more than a handful of redeemable songs.

Relapse - Beautiful, 3 AM, Deja Vu, Underground (I Like), h--- Breaks Loose, Stay Wide Awake
MMLP2 - Bad Guy, Legacy, Rap God, Headlights, Monster(I LIKE IT :)) Evil Twin, Baby, RoR and Groundhog Day.

I Do agree that Encore's gems are better but Em was a better rapper back then

I like to imagine myself as someone who can enjoy things for what they are, be it movies sports or music, but whenever I listen to those albums it's hard for me not to think "what if?"

Yeah I completely agree, Encore is still his fourth best album and looking back now it isn't as big of a disappointment as the other two. However upon initial release it was a bigger disappointment

Also Crazy In Love is a good song
