I really apologize if it comes off that way, @Peter Parker pretty much perfectly summed up what I was saying in detail.

Because you have no right to s--- on someone's taste.

If their favorite albums are hip hop then so be it. it's what they like. it doesn't mean that their lists are disqualified in the slightest.

By the way hip hop has also created some of the most intricate & complex albums of all time as well.. dont act like all hip hop is nonsense, this is the kind of s--- i would be hearing from my grandpa or something

    Yes, he said:

" But hip hop is filled with some of the most cliché unimaginative albums ever."

What an ignorant statement. hip hop can do what many genres can't because there is such an emphasis on lyricism. its just a dumb statement.

You seem to ignore this one "Don't get me wrong, there are strokes of brilliance, and most go unnoticed"; he's not shi--ing on good rap and he's not wrong in what he's saying. Everyone could be a rapper now, just check how many new tapes are posted on datpiff etc every day, and how many rappers use the same cliche things to describe their life in the streets, for example. And he's also right that this can happen easier with rappers than with bands, because bands need equipment and have to actually get together and play music instead of getting pre-made beats to lay vocals on. There's more bad than good music because it's easier to make bad music, and rap music is easier to be made than other music.

Don't act like expressive lyrics aren't important in music lol. Ofc they're very important in rap (because it's the basis, not to mention that most of the times it's all a rapper can provide), but that doesn't mean that they're written well all the time. You had told me that you liked Fashawn's last album for example, but the subject matters, his thoughts on them and the way he approached them were tired and basic, like a 16 year old who just discovered politics or something. Similar topics have been touched by punk bands (and more) with much more compelling lyrics, in plenty occasions they also had quite an impact, and they were part of amazing albums with great music. Also, Public Enemy have done the same, how many people care? Outkast have done the same, yet everyone talks about Kendrick's album like he's the first one to rap on jazzy music while discovering inequality in america rofl ("most go unnoticed".) I'm not saying this to "hate" on rap and you know it, I'll just say that I enjoy good rap, as I enjoy good rock or good whatever, and there's much more good rock than good rap. That's all there is to it.

Like I said in my first post, there are strokes of absolute brilliance in rap. Some get the recognition they deserve, others not so much. I never said that hip hop can't make an amazing album, I'm not one of those idiots.
A lot of half assed s--- gets passed through the mainstream and even the underground, getting praised on levels that are beyond my reasoning. It's like hip hop fans are addicted to mediocrity.

Thoughtful lyrics do in fact elevate an album even if the musical elements aren't there. But most of the genre filled with idiots trying to rhyme over production made by someone they haven't even met. They provide almost no kind of artistic insight into how the music should actually sound like. Ofc this happens in every genre, but it occurs in hip hop a lot more often for the obvious reasons.
You're right, I am in no position to be judging someone's taste, but just based on a pure objective standpoint, hip hop's lows go a lot lower than most genres and happen with a lot more frequency.

You're right about actually having more to say since the lyrics in hip hop aren't confined to a complete melody (even though flows are a melody, just not as strong as other genres). But I'm taking about the actual musical element of the album. You can't tell more than 80% of these rappers that are hot right now actually sat in the studio and direct the producer towards the actual sound they wanted to take. They'll probably say something like "Aye bruh, make me some s--- i can smoke to" and that's about it. And then proceed to throw on some of the most simplictic rhymes ever. Again, not saying this is the case for all rappers, just the grand majority of them.

    -

Let me clarify something here: I am NOT one of those "real hip hop" idiots. I don't give a s--- if you're rapping about your nutsack or political views. In fact, some of those albums with the dry beats and lyrics upon lyrics are the same s--- I'm critiquing. I'm talking about the actual musical input the artists who these albums are credited to actually do. Sure one can place fantastic lyrics on a record, but going the extra mile to make the actual music? Most rappers don't go there. That's why hip hop is litered with mediocrity.

But I do retract my original statement, I am nobody to judge someone's taste.
