Personally I think I find lyrics more important than beat/instrumental imo. Obviously lyrics are a huge part of hip hop but I have been surprised with how often I see people claim they're not the most important part for them and that they value other elements over them.

I think I could listen to an a capella with fantastic lyrics more than I could a dope instrumental with no lyrics.

I can enjoy a song with trash lyrics and good production.
But i can't enjoy a song with high level lyrics and trash production.

I split lyricism into 2 anyway. One being technicalyl lyrically like eminem for example. But you can be lyrical without being technical like Drake and Thugger at times.

If there is one thing I hate, it is filler bars.

But the beat has to be atleast tolerable. Lets be real.

They're equally important. One without the other is boring to me. A song has to be lyrically and musically enticing for me to want to listen to it.

As long as they compliment each other that's the main importance.

I still prefer beats > lyrics though.

It's not about lyrics anymore, it's about a hot beat and a catchy hook

I know just that people would easy fall for that and say 'their lyrics s---'

OT: lyrics are important to me but since it's music, I care more about how it sounds (beat/delivery) than lyrics.. to an extent of course

i like a balance of good bars and a solid backdrop instrumental behind it, there's nothing better than that combination. lyrics need to be at least semi listenable or else i won't approve it.
