Oct 7, 2015 Better rapper yes, in terms of wordplay and stuff. But for the most part the flow and story telling is gone. And the Emotions are gone
Oct 7, 2015 He's better than he's ever been right now just from a rhyming and technical standpoint. But his content is what's suffered the most. It's nowhere near where it was even a decade ago, let alone 15 years ago when he was at his peak. He simply doesn't have interesting subject matter in his life to rap about anymore like he used to.
Oct 7, 2015 Great song but you notice how theres barely any punchlines in it, 2015 Em on a good day at the very least would have just as complex a rhyme scheme and much more subtle but clever punchlines even if it sacrifices the coherent song writing/storytelling. And im talking em from the last 2 years with tracks like Dont Front or Groundhog Day, not Recovery era. I get The Kids is a storytelling format track though, just saying in general Em uses more punchlines now which is a techinical rap skill. Kinda just feel like if you took a great Em free style tracks from back then and one from now, back then youd be blown away by the graphic imagery and right now youd be blown away by some sort of pun/metaphor (like when he said since freestylin over phone tap my lines connected, thats why the more bars the better my reception). Like i said earlier tho im not sure if one is superior over the other, but if I was forced to choose one id pick old Em
Oct 7, 2015 skillwise yes, content wise he's fell off. he needs to focus on making better music, we already know he's one of the best lyricists.
Oct 7, 2015 The MMLP and TEM are classic and I still listen to'em to this day. But I feel like the new Em is technically more dope. The old Em rap was A B A B or A A B B or A B B A, but the new Em rap is more multi-syllables. For the metaphors and playing on words, old Em and new Em are the same. For the topics of the songs, I like more the new Em.
Oct 7, 2015 Eminem 2013 - Present is the best hes ever been I think lyrically and flow wise - creatively. Eminem 2002 was the best "Smooth" flow hes done. If I hate to choose to listen to New Eminem or Old Eminem Id choose New Eminem whcih I guess u guys consider 2009 - Present
Oct 7, 2015 But tbh I just love Eminem as a whole. I dont like it when people seperate the "New" and "Old". If your gonna compare you gotta compare each album "era" because each album has a different style of flow and s---. They all sound different. So its unfair to clump SSLP, MMLP, TES, and ENCORE into ONE and his past 3 into ONE. Just doesnt make since.
Oct 7, 2015 So what if there were barely any punchlines in it? I'd rather him not write a punchline at all.
Oct 7, 2015 Rhyming words just for that sake is not better rapping. Nor is it "techinally" better. That's a stans favorite cop out
Oct 7, 2015 Current Em is technically better, lyrically insane. But the old Em was sonically better, his calm flow and all the emotions he put in his songs are in another level.
Oct 7, 2015 Eminem was a better rapper before as he didn't have to force flows, delivery or style to execute a great song
Oct 7, 2015 Current Em is rapping at a level too complex for casual listeners. He's literally competing with himself and he knows fans (customers) will buy his product regardless of what it sounds like. So, he does whatever the f--- he wants. All we hear is the "declassified" Eminem material that the label chooses to release to the public. As far as skill goes, current Eminem probably dwarfs "prime" Em. He's the same MFer from before. If you continue doing the same thing (rapping) for as long as Eminem been's doing it, your skill level will increase more and more. There is no limit in the eyes of an artist. I'm sure current Eminem could flow and make material nearly identical (quality wise and sonically) to his "prime" material but why would he do that? Its already been done before. Boundaries must be pushed at all times and so regression is not an option.
Oct 7, 2015 Agreed. Well said. He's been doing it for ages now, and naturally his skills must improve. I find his style now more dope than before.
