Dec 21, 2015 This is absolutely how I felt, to a tee. Leia was really disappointing. I did laugh when Leia and Han first meet, and f---ing C3PO comes out and starts talking. lol LOVED that. Kylo Ren had some great f---ing one liners throughout the movie though, that people are skimming. "So, a droid stole the ship?" "Your soldiers have a knack for treason too" I'm definitely paraphrasing, but I thought he was great. 4 out of 7 films deal with a Super Weapon though. I agree, enough with it. Let's explore the universe. Have more atmospheric battles, much like Maz Kanata's castle, or Hoth, or Endor (minus Ewoks).... Show different planets falling to the First Order. I think they just played it super safe with the plot, but they wanted to try different characters, and it worked. And, I really don't think Finn was as equal to Kylo as others are saying. Sure, he lasted, what, a minute? Before one of Kylo's cross guards was pushed into Finn's shoulder, then he was cut up his spine and put into a coma. I mean, remember that Luke got in a couple of hits on Vader the first time they fought, and Luke HARDLY had the training or experience in lightsaber duels that Vader had. It comes back to grounding the franchise. Sure, characters have the force, but it shouldn't make them inhuman or perfect in combat. Light sabers are dangerous weapons, and I like how every swing could lead to an injury. That's what made Star Wars so GREAT to me before. I think, like you said, they're really distancing themselves from the prequels. Gone are the days where you can swing sabers around and not get struck so easily, as was different in the originals.
Dec 21, 2015 The real test for Abrams will be the next episodes. He'll probably get away with the New Hope parallels this time but if the next film is like Empire Strikes Back, he's going to get roasted. He got his setup, used his only lifeline. Now he's got to step up and bring something radical to the table. Like, I don't know, a powerful, non-spherical weapon that can't be disabled and destroyed so easily?!
Dec 21, 2015 Well, JJ isn't directing the next films, but he wrote the stories for the whole trilogy, and I agree. I'm expecting a big reveal in the next one, which I don't think it's a big reveal. Rey is definitely a Skywalker or Solo. I'm leaning towards Skywalker. I just find Kylo super f---ing interesting. I find him super dangerous because he's CLEARLY conflicted by both sides. And I really believe he has a soft spot for Rey, and he knew her at Luke's Academy, and hid her to save her from the Knights of Ren. I can see Rey and Kylo switching roles, where Rey gets seduced by the darkside and Kylo is redeemed, or Kylo switches to the light, but then betrays them again because he's unstable. I also want to know what Han and Leia did wrong, because it totally fits that Han was probably a bad father lol. Just so many possibilities. Episode 8 and 9 is where they need to take chances. This could be so great moving forward.

Dec 21, 2015 Well this is s-----y. Can't go see the movie today after all and I've continually had massive spoilers and random story bits thrown my way online over the past week to the point where I know the entire movies plot.
Dec 21, 2015 Nah. There's never been a difference in theater viewing vs a good rip for me, unless it's seriously that bad of a copy. Going to the s-----y local mall and having a bunch of annoying people around me in seats is not my ideal way of seeing something.
Dec 21, 2015 I thought it was phenomenal. Kylo Ren is what Anakain skywalker should have been in the prequels. I left the theater so amped. Everything hit the right chords with me. Is it the perfect movie? No. But is it one of the best of 2015? Some humor seemed a bit forced, but I think they needed it because of how melo dramatic the Prequels were. I could and have talked about this film for hours with the nerd mafia.
Dec 21, 2015 Kylo Ren pounding his side in the snow. Stopping the laser bolt Adam Driver Oscar Issac John Boyega and Daisy Ridley Gwendoline christie
Dec 21, 2015 I don't know why I'm in the significant minority in thinking Kylo was a little b---- in this movie, and Anakin > Kylo Maybe I'm missing something, I'll have to watch the movie again.
Dec 21, 2015 Skimmed through and watched giant chunks of it, and it was incredibly underwhelming. I'll have to revisit it once a non-cam copy is available, but I doubt my feelings will change on it. So much of what I saw was an absolute mixed bag, and a lot of it just didn't feel or look like star wars to me.
Dec 21, 2015 Man, I wanna watch episode VIII already That ending scene was such a cliffhanger Spoiler
