This is pretty good; it's clear you're not at the level where you can change the sound of the drums. (make them gritty and muddy intentionally) but you definitely have the skills to build upon.

actually; all you need to do is try to up the bass of the drums, try to equalize the mid-range and use a LP filter + excitement to give those highs a unique dusty feel. Try listening to DJ Premier, Madlib or J Dilla and try to recreate those drums.

it really depends on how good the sample is
this one was rather easy to use
