Mar 25, 2016 I feel like I'm doing everything right but something's missing. Maybe I'm not tagging right, maybe I don't have enough hype, maybe my songs are bad but I feel like I believe in my work and it's good enough for release. So what am I doing wrong in general? Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I really need help with this. I'm envious of @Narsh and @KnowRayJones right now.
Mar 25, 2016 Make mixes. People love huge club type sets and s--- on soundcloud for some reason, just be careful what's in it because soundcloud are c---- about copyright s--- anymore and will f--- your account six ways to sunday over it Remixes are the same deal. Can boost your profile a lot and bring in a ton of plays if it's a popular artist... can also backfire and get your account f----- Feature other artists with a decent sized following if you can, and be sure to be the one uploading the track so they bring attention to your account through promoting their part of it Collaborate and release s--- often Post about it on social media accounts like twitter/facebook/instagram/tumblr/reddit/talenthouse etc. You can run campaigns for ad plays on sites like Feature.fm and get air play on internet radio going as well through sites like RadioAirPlay Also, if you perform at all in person, or have any sort of physical version of your work, you can include something about your music online and give them an address to check out with any sort of merch bundle or flyer type s--- branch out and try and incorporate different s--- in your music to reach a wider audience if you feel what you're currently doing just isn't cutting it, or completely sell out and make type beat s--- to capitalize off other artists success if you have a website, set it up with info and links to/about your music for streaming/sale try contacting blogs to submit your music follow people who make similar music in the hopes that they'll follow back or like/repost a track of yours, and unfollow those who don't follow back with something like UnfollowSpy
Mar 25, 2016 I just keep that up to show what I can do for video editing... I apparently have a nack for that... You're probably right, I don't know how to make good enough music though, I'm hoping trial and error does that for me because I'm too poor for music school.
Mar 25, 2016 Its not really about music school. You either have it or you dont. Of course keep making music but keep it realistic.
Mar 25, 2016 music school is for simps with a lot of money to waste look through relevant genre/style tutorials for your DAW on youtube and listen carefully to the artists music you love and try to do what they do and understand how/why they do it, and then make your own style. be a perfectionist about s---. try coming up with themes/concepts as well, i know it helps me focus my music far better than just random s--- i produced as a 'beat' get feedback from people you respect as well and ask lots of questions, and always try to 'improve'
Mar 25, 2016 Good advice, thanks @Flacko @Cyreides. I was hoping that music school would take it to another level but yeah, those work too.
Mar 25, 2016 i also want to really emphasize how you need to be especially careful tho if you do go this route, i rly mean what i said about them f---ing you on this kind of stuff universal music group recently f----- me by flagging an almost year old mix i did and my 9 month old Love Lockdown Remix, so now Downloads are PERMANENTLY disabled on my account, with one more strike deleting my account. this use to be one of the best ways to get big on soundcloud and get noticed and they're starting to turn on all the people that got them big, so it's hard to get away doing mixes/remixes now without getting screwed, and harder to get big simply through soundcloud
Mar 25, 2016 Honestly homie music is how I'm eating right now, its my job. I just hustle and get everyone around me to promote... once people know its something you care about and want to do as a career.. they'll start helping you out, plus its not about being popular, just helping someone get through a rough patch in their lives or having some one tell me I helped them get through something is what makes me happy. 1 play could help someone get through a s-----y a--- day at a sucky a--- job. Just make art, do what you love... and eventually the plays, and popularity you seek will come.
Mar 25, 2016 I realized a while back... the more I wanted a radio hit... the further away from it I got. Just keep dropping music... you never know what could happen. Nothing happens when you want it to, this type of s--- is out of your control just keep hustling homie, if your good s--- will happen at the right time.
Mar 28, 2016 never said you wouldn't learn a lot in a music course, what i am saying is you can basically learn all of the same s--- online, for free. also, it's not a guarantee that whatever music course you'd choose to go through would even give you that studio access, nor is it all that important depending on what you're doing
Mar 28, 2016 also, no disrespect to anyone who goes through with music school, it does have it's purposes, but for something like what tpk is trying to do (building his fan base) it's completely irrelevant
Mar 28, 2016 Listened to the song Flacko posted, and I didn't like it. The beat was too loud and overpowered your voice. The world is a big place though, and there has to be some people who like your stuff. Just try to make the best content you can, and keep grinding. Promote your s--- on social media.
Mar 28, 2016 but u have a personal experience with people in the industry rather than youtube videos so it goes hand in hand but i get what u mean - DP
Mar 28, 2016 true, i've def. had Creations help... but the vast majority of it has still been through self teaching/trial and error or through tutorials. but idk. i guess i just speak from the perspective of someone who's already sunk several years of their time in through other avenues of learning, so i'm well past that point where it would majorly benefit me to throw down 70k+ on college, and having gone about it this way it's something i'd advise against unless you're going for a specific job within the field and need a certification and/or it's something you simply can't learn online
