    When you look at his older work, the only reason it was considered groundbreaking was because of all the casual fans who didn't know his influences. Every aspect of him from his beats to his technical lyricism to his subject matter had been done before. That's not to say the music itself isn't good (I personally dislike a lot of it but still see the appeal) but once you find that out then the "legendary" and "classic" status people have labeled his older works as comes off as a byproduct of ignorance more than a legit claim.

    All that is to say, in short, that eminems fanbase has created an artificial barrier protecting his older work from scrutiny, when by all accounts it's just more above average music. If you step back and objectively compare the two, gates is not only more innovative but displays a broader range of delivery than Eminem. Now, it's fair to say you personally enjoy eminems content more and there's an argument to be made that his technical prowess is just as valid as Kevin gates' style, but the fact of the matter is we're looking at 3 good-great albums of frankly unoriginal content versus 5+ projects (I haven't even listened to all of the mixtapes) of factually innovative and new music. So while they're both good-great, only one was good-great without being a ripoff of those who came before him.

    I went to youtube and searched for kevin gates (random tracks instead of just an album) and f--- there are like 5 songs I had on repeat all afternoon. Great artist. I already heard some of his stuff but the more I hear, the more I like him
