May 24, 2016 If it wasn't for Eminem, hip hop would have been same as today but in early 00s Britney, N-Sync and some other pop groups would have been the only ones people talks about and hip hop wouldn't have been a mainstream genre. Eminem made hip hop mainstream forever at least he was the one who contributed to this the most but hip hop would have been so popular again just few years late. If ya know what I mean. He is the biggest rap artist of all time. He has more contribution in the genre than any other rapper

Literally probably single handedly increased its fan count by 20-30%, inspired countless artists (see J Cole, Kendrick, pretty much any other technical style rapper to come out since), helped merge a few genres, sold countless records, made a wildly successful label, rewrote a ton of records, won Grammys (list goes on and on)

May 25, 2016 Like most here have said, he made the incentive that much more imperative to discover exactly what it was about Hip-Hop that was so infectious. It became a g.d. phenomenon. Because he is phenomenal. Nah, just kidding. From 1997 to 2001, he made music that n----s to this day can't compete with (Including himself. Truly shot himself in the foot by being that good.). Used to be my favorite rapper. Then I grew up. And I realized that Slug and Ant were waiting for me on the other side of the tracks like Ewan McGregor in Trainspotting. We all have to start somewhere, right? Well, this whole generation f----- with at least one Eminem song. If you couldn't connect to Rock Bottom or Sing For The Moment, then what the f---, man? Are you even human? Do you have a pulse? I'm saying. Although he didn't make the same impact as Pac from a virtuously socially-conscious standpoint, he still brought this genre at the forefront and helm of mainstream media. He was susceptible to more scrutiny, as a result. And inadvertent sensationalizing was the name of the game. He knew what he was doing. He just wasn't sure it was going to garner the controversial reception it did. n----s relied on shock value to plug their material and promote their brand for ages. He wasn't the first. But thanks to Esham and NATAS, Acid Rap was born. And so was Em's style switch between Infinite and The Underground EP with D12 (When Bugz was alive and co-leader with Proof.).

May 27, 2016 The real answer is no There will never ever be another artist that appeals to such a wide demographic like Eminem does females, males, whites, arabs, teenage girls, teenage boys, latinos, asians, adults, upper class, lower class, middle class. His popularity will always be unmatched by anyone else BUT that means he is a Pop star, a Pop icon, an amazing flawless Song Writer That don't make him important to hip hop especially when a huge % of his fans are not hip hop fans like him for his singing rather than his rapping or enjoy his singing more. So he has transcended way beyond hip hop as a legendary musician that reaches such a high non hip hop fan base

But if Em and everything he's done just disappeared tomorrow..if he could never be heard again...there would be a deep void in hip hop. Personally, it would be a great loss. No one could ever do what Em does, how Em does it. He's a f---ing lyrical genius. Period.
