Well yeah, this is after someone's been acquitted or has finished serving their sentence, and I think that's obvious? Continually barring people with records from employment is punitive and leads to more crime.

Sorry if I'm being ignorant but what in the world would 1500 dollars do for black people? Surely the overwhelming majority would blow it or put it towards a car or something right? Reparations on theory seem like a nice idea like investing in communities is great 100% for that but 1.5k?for what? That won't fix any racial tension at all and I feel like if that did happen it would be forever used as a way of suggesting racisms debts have been paid for which they obviously wouldn't be seems hella problematic to me

Your f---ing movement is reactionary. So any reform it advocates would be reactionary by default. I don't see why you felt the need say bs off the bat.

you see i don't particularly disagree with these people, but certain things just annoy me

That's fair. Lets see your proposal!

The problem with this is that you nullify the state's control of law and order. Police officers should and must be trained before-hand. Such freelance manipulation of the police force's staff will reduce it's effectiveness in both the long and short term. This also submits the police to the will of the people, which is completely counter to their reason for existence. And will have dangerous results considering which areas you choose to give this power.

    agreed

    :empalm:

There are a few things wrong this request. Looking at this literally, it asks for legal immunity exclusively for black people. Of course this isn't what they mean, but it shouldn't be that hard to insert one word in your demands for basic clarity. What this does is create an appeal to emotion where the unjustified 'criminalization, incarceration, and killing' of that specific set of people is conflated to all instances and the specific demographic which this overwhelmingly affects is conflated to include all of 'our people'. And this sets up a subtle and deceptive imagery of people dying en masse disregarding any specifics or factors.

Ok, if you wan't child rapists to teach your young children P.E, then fine.

Meaning, black people should get preferenced state funding and exclusive social protection. And then @WPG will try to explain to me how BLM isn't a supremacist movement.

Demands are nothing more than helpless requests without the element of enforced consequence. These people should be ignored until they come up with more practical and realistic solutions.

It is very clear to anyone with even a passing understanding of the American legal system that this platform asks for an end to undue targeting of and discrimination against black people.
"Preferenced" state funding is legitimate as a form of reparations. Affirmative action has been upheld time and time again as constitutional, which it wouldn't be if it were a mechanism of racial superiority. Try again.

But they aren't barred from employment... And it's up to the employer how a criminal record weighs against a job applicant. That's why it's so puzzling to me. Obviously certain crimes will disqualify you from some professions for life no matter the case. This request just makes no sense at all to me.

By the same logic you could make it "up to the employer how someone's gender weighs against a job applicant."
Like what? This wouldn't allow pedophiles to be gym teachers; it doesn't advocate ending the sex offender registry.

The whole premise of our judicial system is that offenders are incarcerated so long as they're a threat to society. Laughable as it may be, prisons are technically rehabilitation centers. If you've "paid your debt to society" you should be freed without repercussions. If a parole board doesn't find you fit to reenter society, they won't grant you parole.

Not really because that has no relevance to the responsibilities of the job while a criminal background does correlate with significant risk.

Theft and working at a bank lol

Prison sentences do not outweigh the seriousness of many crimes. Do you think that douchey Stanford swimmer who r---d a girl is going to be suitable for society after his dinky little sentence? He broke the law and he will pay the price for life.

If you think that a criminal record isn't at least a factor to consider when hiring somebody you are being dishonest.

I know a lot of people want to support this cause. I agree with the idea of black lives matter, as I hope most people do. Our citizens need help. I don't agree with most liberal solutions, but I know they need help somehow. However, BLM's execution is terrible and their strategic objectives are absurd and indefensible to a reasonable person. Even Obama criticized them.
