Heard this last night, I had no idea what was going on throughout the album but I loved it. I was expecting a nice smooth indie pop record but I'm glad it turned this way, I'm gonna listen to this again to really grasp it.

Great great album. I'd still have it below Bon Iver, Bon Iver though.

His old stuff was very folk-y and acoustic. This is very much in a similar vein to his contributions on MBDTF.

For Emma, Forever Ago really indie feel to it but Bon Iver, Bon Iver is really accessible imo.

I was in the same situation as you, gave For Emma a cursory listen, and then moved on to this. Even still, this album blew me away. Its just sonically pleasing in like 20 different ways. Definitely in my top 5 albums of the year. And 33 God, especially the live premiere where the backing vocals sound like Ye, is top 5 songs of the year.

    MTY VERY SHALLOW LISTENING

    Oct 7, 2016
so uh.... not the biggest fan of this, surprisingly.

the singles are still fantastic but there's just so much wasted potential on the album, this feels like something that should have been released two years after bon iver, bon iver, not five.
