The only other franju film I've seen is Judex, which gets extremely silly in the last act but for the most part is pretty great. I've been also wanting to check out therese and nuits rogues for ages.

What a sad day for the world and Polish cinematography. Andrzej Wajda is dead :emoji_slight_frown:

I don't understand how The Neon Demon was so divisive. It's pretty simple and Refn actually finds proper context to go nuts with lighting and composition. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't realize Amazon Studios was behind Refn's The Neon Demon, Solondz's Wiener Dog, Jarmusch's Paterson, and other stuff by Woody Allen and Spike Lee. Their streaming service is kind of a mess, but their original features are way more interesting than what Netflix has to offer.

Finally watched Louder Than Bombs and that hit wayyy too close to home. Glad it didn't go to s--- after all of the production troubles. Robert David Mitchell's debut The Myth of the American Sleepover was good despite being very """indie""". I liked it more than It Follows. Sean Baker's Starlet confirmed what I took away from Tangerine in that he's got a real knack for comedy. Ti West's The House of The Devil is way better than other stuff I've watched from him. Baumbach's While We're Young was nice. Oh, and documentary wise Grizzly Man and Tickled were both excellent.

You're the one who put it on my radar. I've been checking for it every couple of months since then. I've never thought to straight up ask the filmmakers. Any tips on how I should go about that?

pretend you are press and want to write a review for a website.
or say its for a class or something.
filmmakers of independent films like this are usually happy to send screeners out to people if they think it will help get the word out. even a letterboxd review is prob of interest to them. I actually still have the link they used on vimeo, but the password has expired. means they have it available still though.

Haven't been posting much recently, but I've seen a lot of new films at NYFF and elsewhere. For a quick recap for those not on letterboxd...

    Toni Erdmannn (GREATEST FILM EVER)
    Paterson (DOPE AS f---)
    Elle (ALSO DOPE AS f---)
Personal Shopper (Perplexing, but growing on me...possibly great)
Yourself and Yours (Good but not one of Hong's best)
    The 13th (Solid)
Certain Women (Uneven, but mostly solid)
Fire at Sea (Disappointing though mileage may vary)
American Honey (Also somewhat disappointing, but not without merit)
    The Handmaiden (A blast)
Under the Shadow (Not especially scary, but a smart genre blend)

Going to check out Moonlight this week.

A recap of the rare public appearance from Terrence Malick: https://thefilmstage.com/features/t...aking-and-his-future-in-rare-live-appearance/

Also interesting is the suggestion that his newer work may be more firmly tethered to a script.

I checked in about 5 pages of films at letterboxd:
    https://letterboxd.com/kamahmed/films/reviews/by/added/

And I updated my lists for 2016. Basically I entered everything I saw for VIFF which I previously was embargoed from talking about. Most are shorts and aren't even on letterboxd, but there's lots of features too. Most notably, Moonlight is my top rated film of the year.
