Afraid to say The Lobster is a recycle bin klassik.

Jk but it didn't do much for me in comparison to his other films :emoji_disappointed_relieved:

I've debated whether my placement of The Lobster is too high, but then I remember the scene where Colin Farrell kicks a small child in the shin and I know I've rated it properly.
I go by US release date which is generally the convention for US critics in end of the year polls like Slant, Indiewire, and Film Comment.

As far as newish stuff I didn't see until 2016,

    Knight of Cups
    The Neon Demon
    Queen of Earth
    The Witch

    ----------------
    Food and Shelter
    I, Olga Hepnarova

    -----------------
    10 Cloverfield Lane
    Louder Than Bombs
    Tickled

    -----------------
    Green Room

I play catch up too hard to enjoy the fun, contemporary conversations. Won't have a legit 2016 list until 2020.

I watched City on Fire last night. What a meme that whole "Reservoir Dogs is just a ripoff of it" turned out to be. Chow Yun-fat is my hero tbh.

I like Yorgos' first two movies a lot more. The Lobster kind of let me down. Felt a little too simple and straight forward for his brand of weird. Like once you get it, that's all there is to it.

Did you just respond to a post of mine without going "lol" or "trash fam"? :dennis:

Dogtooth is his best imo, but it became a cult hit so there's less of a reason to champion it now.

13 Hours is one of the few movies I've seen that actually lives up to the same "war is h---" cliche that practically every movie of its kind is built on. One of the character's says that he feels like he's in a horror film, because he pretty much is. Balfe's music layered over the attack on the consulate is terrifying, with the subsequent fall back on the annex not feeling dissimilar to survivors setting up a final stand in a zombie flick or something. Bay turns would-be gorgeous landscapes into foggy, war torn graveyards that eventually swallow these lavish, multi-million dollar buildings that America has built in the wake of it. Would be higher if it wasn't for some embarrassingly manipulative grasps for character sympathy leading up to the attack. You should give it a shot!

    Something something pretentious?

Nice to see. Disturbing stuff, especially with what's going on with him and Huma lately.
