While I don't particularly like this line either. But it's obvious what it means to any real hip hop head. In hip hop, it's common terminology (or at least was back in the 90s and 2000s) that when a rapper is significantly better than his peers, he "s----s on the them" or is "shi--ing on them". So I'm pretty sure Em's line here is a play on words and reference to this hip hop phrase.

Not saying I like the line. Just saying it's not that far fetched when one is more familiar with hip hop slang. I will say though, I do agree it's not growth as a artist as "shi--ing on other rappers" or "shi--ing on the microphone" are slang terms used over 15 years ago, so in that sense it's the opposite of growth haha.

I love the bit up until the "like the ghost of Lou Rawls" and the last few lines of the verse, but I just can't get into the middle bit. No impact for me.

I feel like MMLP2 is more of a sequel to the Eminem Show other than Bad Guy and the few references. He talked about life and fame like he did on TES, and there's a few rock beats as well.

I've been writing hip-hop for 18 years. I understand what it means. Believe it or not I even like the song overall. It's great from a technical standpoint. Content-wise nothing Eminem has done has shown his maturity more than The Eminem Show. Since then he has regressed, first with fart jokes, then a whole album about r--- and eventually the infamous fast food references.

It's fine to enjoy the silly stuff. h---, I write silly stuff myself sometimes. But I still want to hear Eminem discuss something real again. I don't care about f---in trap beats or "getting with the times." I want something I can defend to NON hip-hop heads.

Well said my friend. I agree 100%. I hate when I hear people say they wanna hear Eminem rapping "over trap beats". I don't know why that bugs me so much but it really does. Anyways, I completely agree that it would be best if he rapped about something real once again. To me, it's almost like he's so afraid to let listeners into his personal life again. It's almost like his years in the media spotlight from like 1999-2005 were just so over the top, so in your face, so many rumors where regardless of what he said or did it was instant news around the globe. It seems to me that his reaction to this Beatles level fame was almost like an invasion of privacy to his life, regardless if he rapped about those things or not. And now, he's hesitant to go back to that. Sure he opened up on Recovery and rapped about some real life experiences but once Slaughterhouse and Royce came into the picture, he went back to his early roots of rapping purely for the technical sport of it and didn't care so much about making actual songs with real life content.

Anyways, I completely agree with you. Hip hop is best when the rapper tells a story through his lyrics and songs. That's what made Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Jay-Z and of course, Eminem, so endearing to so many hip hop heads and NON hip hop heads. They took you into their world and it was fascinating. I hope Eminem goes back to this style of song writing. He may not feel like he has much to rap about, but if he can find a way to include and bring back sincere content back into his songs then we will all benefit greatly from a terrific album. It's the perfect time for this because technically he's arguably better than ever and is only showing signs off improving. I would love nothing more than for him to find a balance between top notch technical rhymes and real life content. That's the magical balancing act he unfortunately has to navigate around. We'll see if he can pull it off. If there's any mainstream artist today that's capable of doing both, it's Eminem.

I dunno man, he made real songs on MMLP2 and Shady XV. Fine Line, Headlights, h--- even So Far gave us an insight into his life at the moment.

To be fair, what fan wouldn't want his new album to resemble his Holy Trinity?

    Nawh, not me for sure.

Love the crazy flows and insane lyricism.

I love being surprised by Em. It's one of the reasons he's still as popular as he is, because as much as we all feel he's predictable (somehow...) - I sure as f--- didn't predict or expect a horrorcore concept album, as an arab, after Encore. And didn't expect some ode to current trends, megahits, yell fest @ Recovery. Then sure as f--- did not see MMLP2 coming.

That's what keeps Em exciting. Never know what you might hear next.

BUT! All I want, personally, is for him to stop tarnishing albums with shameless compromises aka The Monster on MMLP2. The key difference being Em used to just make his songs radio hits. It wasn't that he pandered to radio, radio pandered to him. But for him to just keep doing these "yeah yeah gimmie a hook and beat template at x tempo and I'll {insert triumph over odds verses here}!" is just wack as f---. That's all I want, just have the balls to see a vision through from start to finish.

The only return-album that there was no obvious aesthetic compromises was Recovery. Because the whole album sounds like that, so nothing sounded out of place. Just a shame that the production is s---.

But for him to tarnish the MMLP title with the most obvious and shameless radio template song in the world like the f---ing Monster? That's so s--- of him. Especially as he doesn't need to. Rap God was fkn triple platinum and that s--- was a 6 minute spaz fest over a seizure beat, with Em whispering a hook. He doesn't need to pander to be big, and yet he does anyway.

No doubt f---ing Jimmy and co. "ahh Em I think we need a bigger lead single". Old Em would say f--- off or make a song which sounds like the fkn album. New Em just goes "yeah w.e. send me that s--- you were gonna send to Flo Rida, I'll just do what everybody else does and conform. No worries Jimmy!". Grow some balls Em.

    Epic take man. Best part?

"The key difference being Em used to just make his songs radio hits. It wasn't that he pandered to radio, radio pandered to him."

This really hit home with me. I was in high school when Eminem first came out and what you said can't be overstated. You're absolutely right, radio bent over backwards to play his s---. Even rock radio stations were playing his music. h---, Jimmy pressuring Em to make a more radio friendly song for the MMLP, and everybody already knows this, was the inspiration for him to write The Way I Am.

Either way, modern day Eminem is slaughtering microphones just about every time he picks one up. It's truly remarkable to see a guy in his mid 40s being the best technical rapper out. It's unprecedented.
