    True, a lot of rappers do. Cole peppers it in. I don't mind it when it's not a constant, central theme. As long as they don't go on and on about it.

    I feel like a lot of "critics" are people who grew up listening to pink floyd/Rolling Stones and all that and got into hip hop when it got a little hotter. My friends that have that kind of musical background have the same taste palette as critics and there's definitely a pattern of who they like and who they don't. They think that liking Kendrick gives them immunity to just put down other more traditional hip hop artists and don't seem to care much about what moves and resonates with people, probably because of that disconnection. Like how can they say that Travis' Birds is poorly executed when you can just play the album back to front at any hip hop club and have people lose it. They'll also jump on "eccentric" people because everything else sounds the same to them just like if we listen to indie rock, it will all sound similar to a lot of us. And they probably don't like the idea of seeming outdated. I just don't think they're fit to critique hip hop, there's such a disconnect between what they rate highly and what the hip hop community praises (again, other than with Kendrick and one or two others)
