I think it got a pass because of the context @ being an emotional teenager, and also being surrounded by racial tension and racial bullying himself his whole life... I don't think anybody believed he had any intent of a true racist or believes what he raps. I disagree he wouldn't have made it though. I think a certain level of talent will always make it no matter what. Providing he still made the material he made; SSLP, MMLP; Stan, The Way I Am etc.? It's too freakish of a talent to ignore, regardless, the world couldn't have helped it - if they still heard it.

The rapper Skillz does these wrap up songs for each year and for the year with Em's racist tape, he had a line that said 'Em I doubt you a racist kid, thank God that s--- hit the fan the same week that MJ's did' or something like that..
