    I respect Cole’s intentions, it’s actually extremely honorable. It’s a difficult thing to do what he does in his position. But this is my thoughts -

    Holding guilt for having your success and writing songs reflecting the issues alone aren’t going to help the people he wants to help. The reason why I fell in love with his music is because it motivated the f--- out of me when I was in college. He did a great job of balancing struggle with motivation - key word “balance”. There was a sense of inspiration I got from hearing his raps where he would first state all his roadblocks + the general negativity in the world and then would proceed to inspire you to push past all that and come out on top. I can say with full confidence that him and Tupac are the only ones who can do this most effectively (at least to me).


    This album is actually very well done in my opinion, but in my honest opinion I feel like he would be able to reach a wider group of people if there were songs about the SOLUTION behind depression/anxiety/addiction which will give you solid reasons to escape that world. s--- that people would want to bump on the daily which would reframe their mindset. The whole meditate over medicate bridge was the only time I recall where he did this. I’m happy he stated the issues (that was much needed today), but no one is going to listen until you give them an alternative.


    Maybe I’ve just grown apart from this mind state and have chosen to remain on offense in life instead of defense, or maybe this album doesn’t relate to me. But I’d honestly just like to have a real convo with Cole and talk through his thought process about life in general about this s---.
