Kid Cudi Is Kid Cudi the most underrated GOAT in hip hop?

hmmm... I don't remember melodrama really. I mean the whole album was basically about his psyche, right? He's a guy who has a history of mental health issues. Doesn't seem like melodrama to me. I understand that he sometimes expresses those emotions in a juvenile way but I think that's part of his charm and what makes him unique.

I didn't mean to trivialize his mental health issues in any sense—mean melodrama more in terms of his lyrics and the way he delivers them sometimes (which isn't to say that they way he croons and hums isn't amazing when it hits). As you said, it can come across as juvenile. Not really sure how that makes him unique though.

Lots of artists write about subjects that aren't inherently melodramatic (drug abuse, mental health, racism, failed relationships) in a melodramatic way (macklemore, late-period eminem, cudi, hopsin, etc.) in a melodramatic way.

Yeah, I know you didn't. Just wasn't quite sure how to make sense of what you were saying. Like he's not juvenile in the same way a Hopsin or Eminem is (don't listen to Macklemore). I'd have to listen to the album again to get a real sense of what you mean. But take a song like Sky Might Fall...

    The sky might fall
    The sky might fall
But I'm not worried at all

Even the way he delivers the lyrics... It's kinda in this naive/juvenile way. It's innocent. That's part of the charm for me. Idk if you've ever watched a Disney film as an adult but it has a similar affect. It's like an escapism to innocence but still with very real/relatable themes. It's a refreshing perspective.

Cudi did a cover of this... It's on WZRD

It's not bad but he probably shouldn't have lol

This thread got me listening to his albums that don't have notoriety and they've actually got some gems. At least Indicud and WZRD do. He's such a unique artist too. Like who the h--- sounds like Cudi.... Even the people that have been influenced by him don't sound like him all that much. He kinda created a genre tho tbh

Also... This is pretty good btw...

I could never see why people think that album is so bad. A few throwaways... but solid in my opinion.

    Disorderly Progress What's cookin?

    Jun 12, 2018
    Not really.

He's mad some great music but he's not an amazing rapper or anything, it's more about the whole package + his sound.

No way would I say he has 3 classics too. Only classic to me is his debut.

I wish people would stop inserting GOAT into sentences containing just about any rapper at all.

Question makes no sense. Goat means THE greatest. Can only be one GOAT which is certainly subjective. So maybe to you Cudi is the greatest rapper to ever live. This doesn't make him underrated, just makes your opinion not very popular.
