Jul 19, 2018 Going with a 7 track project was a creative choice, and that restriction was one he placed on himself. That's interesting in the case of Daytona, but ye was 7 songs for the sake of being 7, not because the project called for it. It was more scatterbrain than Pablo (if possible), with none of the endearing qualities. To me, that's a colossal failure in regards to the execution.
Jul 19, 2018 @Big Cuntry ye's creative process was: >I got some fire samples I dug up while working on this string of GOOD projects, and a couple of beats made loosely >I got a week to throw some raps on this, call Drake, call Party, call Nicki and get this album written. Get Kim to help me with whatever those 3 don't do. >Take a pic on my iPhone on the way to the listening party for the cover art, package it, and call it ART This is just my opinion, but dawg, Kanye gave me the first album I considered a top down masterpiece. He was my favourite artist ever for over a decade. Pablo got a pass, but ye is garbage.
Jul 19, 2018 I think the 7 song thing overall worked better as a marketing gimmick than in terms of execution for sure. And by Teyana they just said "f--- it" and made it 8 songs anyway so...what was the point? I wish they'd at least put a run-time restriction rather than a song restriction, cuz the songs range from 1.5 min to 7.5 min run times across all the albums. It's arbitrary. Yeah, it's really sloppy. I remember thinking after Pablo "he's not gonna be able to continue waiting til the last minute to write the album and still have it come out well" and that rang true for ye. Cuz on Yeezus and Pablo there's songs like Real Friends and New Slaves that you can tell he spent a long time writing, so they anchor the songs that are kinda just manic, last-minute freestyles in reality. And there's not much of that on ye. Plus it doesn't help that his flow itself sounds lazier in general. Cuz you can sell a lazy verse if you deliver it with gusto and it's over production that creates an atmosphere that fits within the album (ie, I Am A God). But to me these don't really feel like manic freestyles in the same way they were on pablo and yeezus, they're just...bad verses.
Jul 19, 2018 Can't remember if I've said this here before, but the difference between ye and the rest of his albums to me is that it doesn't pull you into an atmosphere like the rest of his albums do. WTT pulls you into the brash opulence/luxury raps of Jay-Z and Kanye. 808s takes you through the stages of a cold depressing breakup. Yeezus is a midlife crisis. Pablo is a series of manic ups and downs. etc etc. ye tries with the first track, but it doesn't really end up anywhere. @Mike Tyson
Jul 19, 2018 kanye should have 7 tracked pablo Ultralight Beam FSTM 1 FSTM 2 FML Real Friends Wolves Saint Pablo
Jul 20, 2018 This s--- is still open tf. Drake might a better artist but as a rapper he'll never reach the level of Kanye, Wayne and Eminem. There's a reason Kendrick is considered to be one of the greats while Drake is nowhere near this discussion even though Drake is way more popular and achieved more
