YO JCN FAM! I hope everyones blessed and their families are keeping well.

In these times I just feel that the game needs a leader to hold people to account.. I know there will never be another Pac but what's stopping artists doing what they do best, making records, where they can really use their voice and platform to create that social change?

In England, Marcus Rashford (Man U footballer) has forced the government to U-Turn and they are now providing children with free meals over the 6 week school holiday. This is using your platform to create real social change.

I'm all for donating money, being on the front line of protests. But for those who really have the power and platform it is time to take it to the next level.

Yeah if this song was some kinda step towards being a leader it's a very very reluctant one. Coles always not been too comfortable in the limelight, like he has the voice and the mindset to be that leader but I guess he doesn't wanna become the voice for black people or the voice for hip-hop. He should just join forces with kdot and dominate

Every man to themselves and every rapper to themselves I suppose.. It makes me think why rappers are scared to take a stand and be the light for the people. Fear of repercussions from the industry and executives? Backlash from labels? He's rapping about now being not educated enough to talk more on the topic. What's he been doing since '14 with the Eric Garner protest?

I'm sorry but I see 16/17 year olds taking time to research about history, colonisation and institutional racism. This track isn't what the game or activism needed at the moment.

'She strike me as somebody blessed enough to grow up in conscious environment
With parents that know 'bout the struggle for liberation and in turn they provide her with
A perspective and awareness of the system and unfairness that afflicts 'em
And the clearest understanding of what we gotta do to get free
    '

This is BS and an insult to all those who like me, lived in council houses, parents with no formal education and had to grind his way up to the top. There are people out there who had nothing, no education and knowledge passed down from parents and family that had to adapt and grow into the world around them.

s---, it's a reason it took like two hundred years for our ancestors just to get freed
These shackles be lockin' the mental way more than the physical

Kanye sounded unhinged on TMZ, but this is exactly what he was trying to convey

I respectfully disagree that they’re saying the same thing. Kanye said that slavery was a choice. He was very credulous in his questions. He did mention the mental aspect but in a very discounted fashion...definitely not as the cause of keeping slaves, in servitude.

It’s funny how you pick one or two lines to compare them, just to come into the Cole fan section to take swipes at us. Did you not listen to the song? The song is about coming from a place of understanding and being better.

Content and flow A1. The chill backdrop sounds fitting for this. Might sound awkward with a slapper of a beat

I just think Kanye talks out of his a--- sometimes and doesn’t really get his point across correctly. I think the end goal was to say something similar to what Cole said, but he didn’t think about it enough and it was a half-baked idea that he didn’t know how to properly explain. Ultimately, he sounded like an a------, but I think the idea is similar.

The other issue I see with this Cole song is the hypocrisy he displayed when it comes to being or not being the “smart” rapper. He positioned himself in the past as the mature rapper, somewhat pretentious, talking down to other rappers on False Prophets and the other loosie from that era that I can’t remember right now, and the Pump interview. But now that there’s discussions to be had of actual substance, he wants to position himself as someone who isn’t in the know? Like, c’mon now lol

    A) not taking swipes just observing. Don’t take it so personal it’s just a place to discuss music. And don’t take that as condescending either because I’m really not trying to be and I can’t really portray that over the internet, but I’m seriously not trying to be a d-ck lmao

    b) no one made a thread for the song for whatever reason so this is the only place to discuss.

    c) I don’t think Coles intentions are from a bad place, I just think he’s wrong in this matter.
