there lies the mistake you made in trying to rationalize Kanye’s ineptitude to be political or social. I make that mistake myself. If one continues to speak on s--- he/she does not fully understand, therefore sounding like a dumb a---, then just maybe..he’s a dumb a---. I have my opinions on kanye but they’re irrelevant.


I disagree with your last statement too. Lol. I don’t see the hypocrisy. Being smart or intelligent is not fixed. It’s on a continuum. One can be smart in one thing and completely ignorant of another. No one knows everything. I think what Cole is conveying here is just how smart he is. He clearly isn’t privy to vast amount of information and knowledge he’s intimating that NONAME has acquired, so he’s coming from a humble place to want to learn more. He acknowledges is own shortcomings.

Yea I mean, Kanye always sounds like a dumbass whenever he tries to speak on things because he doesn’t think anything through. I don’t think the intentions are bad either though, just idiotic.

Also, I get what you’re saying that Cole is obviously smarter than the Pumps of the world, and that pretty much goes without saying. However, I think he positioned himself as an educated person — and he is, no doubt — but he gets to reap all the benefits from the general public of being the top “conscious” rapper (Along with Kendrick), and I don’t think it’s right that he cops out like this when it finally comes to something that actually matters.

Also, I think it was a terrible time to drop the song when the topic of yesterday was the undervaluing of black women in our country after that young black girl was sexually assaulted and found dead yesterday.

Not undervaluing her, but I don’t think the time was right for this track yesterday. I think he’d have been better off releasing it before the passing of Oluwatoyin Salau. But releasing it the same day of that just doesn’t feel right with the premise of the song questioning Noname’s train of thought being that she is a vocal black female herself.

was Cole’s song offensive? Nah, not at all. I just think he’d have been better off doing the research that he acknowledges he lacks right now in the song, instead of releasing said song that will bring headlines of “Cole disses NoName,” even though that’s not really how it plays out in the song. We know how things change on twitter though with people not even listening to the song.

In the end, I think he’d have been better off staying silent if for nothing more than this is a huge distraction at hand when it feels like for the first time, in my life at least, we are on the verge of some actual change. We just need to be full steam ahead with the current movement instead of having two black icons (NoName being more of a cult icon, but still) going at each other.

There are folks out there of all genders and race who are condescending and think they’re better than others when discussing certain issues. Having a smug, superior attitude isn’t going to move the needle and bring people together...it turns most people away. Shaming isn’t the way to go even if you agree with that person. Actions are greater than woke tweets. Cole is pointing this out. No matter what he or Kendrick do it won’t be good enough for some folks.

And Cole, Kendrick and anyone else who wants is allowed to call out people for their condescending attitude no matter who it is and discuss any subject they want that want via a song
