Why isn't Jay-Z respected worldwide like Eminem and Tupac are?

What I mean is if u ask random people on the street about jay z they will probably say hey the guy from that rihanna song?? Or the alicia keys song?

I hate that its the case but jay isnt as popular as he deserves to be (outside of US especially)

I don't think that he has the same "legendary" status as Pac or Em, at least in Poland. When somebody says that he likes jay z It means that he more or less listens and know anything about rap, when absolutely everybody loves pac and em, so I guess I get where OPs coming from

    I don’t know.

Here in latin america most people hate guys like Jay Z or Kanye West. Millionaires with a big ego.

Pac is known by posers who thinks that 90s is the best era of rap just because “everything was better in the past” and Em because he has some catchy hooks like Stan and he is white.

He gets his due props across the globe. I think what OP means is that he gets clowned/discredited for his excess and materialism or something? Like references to him being a sellout, losing to Nas, being called a camel, voice mocked and whatnot.

Similar to how Drake gets clowned but he's respected generally and is still popping.

With that said, those gripes are usually echoed by insular hip-hop communities. He has an abundant amount of fans that champion his music without getting stuck into the other s---.

Jay’s not White and he’s not dead. Jay is also a billionaire rapper so I don’t know how true that statement is.

    Disorderly Progress What's cookin?

    Sep 24, 2020
Because he hasn't made music that has resonated as much.

When my friend died as a kid... me and my mate sat in his kitchen listening to 2Pac's 'Changes' crying our eyes out.

Jay-Z doesn't have music which resonates on that level.

Kanye is also more popular because he made music people FEEL more. The answer is simple - they all made better music.

idk this sounds like either a misunderstanding of Jay's music, or that you just haven't listened to enough of it. I accept that his singles contrasted heavily to the kind of things Em/Ye/Pac (who, I should add, all largely moved more towards Jay's lane in their later careers) were putting out in their early careers, so his more introspective work didn't really get the kind of widespread attention that say Cleanin' Out My Closet or Changes did, but his catalogue is super varied. Songs like D'Evils, or You Must Love Me, or This Can't Be Life are harrowing on a level that very few rappers have ever been able to reach.
