Does anyone else think that Eminem's drug addiction and the Game/50 beef is the real reason Detox...

never saw the light of day?

Think about it. Shady/Aftermath was on top of the world from 99-05 and couldn't do any wrong at that time. Dre could've released Detox during that time period and it would have at least done Massacre/ Encore numbers.

But, in 2006, Eminem started to go in a sunken place with drugs and the 50/Game beef destabilized the G Unit movement. And many artists on Aftermath like Rakim were getting shelved.

I think if Em was still musically active in 2006 - 2008 and The Game stuck with G Unit, Dre would have had more incentive to give us Detox since Shady/Aftermath would still be killing it.

It's just speculation of my part though. What's your take?

Seems like Dre has OCD when it comes to making and releasing his own music.

Even Compton he had to label it as a soundrack because he wasn't sure how it would be received. It turned out fantastic though.

When you think about it, Dre has only released 3 solo albums in his 35 year career. That's less than an album a decade lol.

''And don't worry about that Detox album, it's coming. We're going to make Dre do it''

    That didn't age well.

I mean, maybe? Bishop Lamont, Stat Quo and many others were there to fill in the voids though. Who knows how many Em-verses Dre would've used on the album, Eminem only wrote 2 Songs on 2001 as I recall.

Detox was in the works from the moment he released 2001. That's already 6 years of teasing, multiple delays and no release so as much as the situations you've mentioned may have had some effect I can't imagine it's the sole reason.
