May 29, 2022 I think Em gets how horrible his flows and the beat sounded on Revival but doesn't admit and instead doubles down due to his ego. There's a complete turn-around in his music since and MTBMB Side A was one of his best mixed and sonically pleasing album in a long time. What I hate however is his lack of self-awareness as to how poor and forced his puns/dad-jokes/punchlines sound. Evidently, that's one thing he hasn't learned yet. And given he gets his feedback from the wrong people (the yes men and the youtubers orgasming at his corny puns), I'm not certain if he'll learn anytime soon either.
May 29, 2022 Was just having this conversation myself, spot on. Em wouldn’t have completely 180’d his sound if he didn’t hear & acknowledge the criticism. The whole narrative of content being the problem is a clear lie due to his insecurity (ego) as he is making similar content to Revival now & adding pop-stars to his album(s). Revival wasn’t exactly a departure from his normal topics, it was just horrible to listen to & he’s well aware of that. People need to stop taking words at face value but instead acknowledge the actions. The 2nd part, regarding his puns. I believe one of the main driving forces of his obsession with 1 bar punches is the reaction videos & understanding his base isn’t solely emcee nerds & they’re actually a minority. People would miss a lot of the wordplay around the MMLP2 era & over the years he started to dial back on the complexity & even point out his puns with “get it” ad libs, now he’s gone even further to making easier to catch bars. It’s a huge downgrade for me but looking at it from a general perspective, I can see why, I just wish he wasn’t a reactive artist & focused more on himself rather than the reactions.
May 29, 2022 Problem is he gets praised for that, even from other rappers, and that's pretty much the only thing he gets respected for these days. That and his legendary status, of course. That's what makes him "lyrical" apparently lol, so he probably will never stop. Or he will just basically "lower" himself like he said on LOS, I believe. Still, I find it's just a meme and a trend to call out every attempt he does to make a great bar. Not every f---ing wordplay or double entendre is corny and he can in fact be very clever. Sometimes. ***and yes I think he totally knows Revival mostly sucks, otherwise how would one explain Kamikaze and MTBMB (both sides)? The mixing got better, flows got way better, the production and the beats got way better even if some choices are still debatable. Either you like those albums or not, they're better for sure it's 7AM what am I even saying ffs
May 29, 2022 His puns are great. He evolved the simple setup from Recovery into whole themes that connect together and work on multiple levels. It's your poor sense of humor that puts everything into "dad joke" category, as if that's necessarily something bad. He's having fun and being clever with words. Most of the puns are extremely clever and impressive. You consider it corny because of your own limitations. Most of them are brilliant. Sometimes they're corny. Worst case scenario, he's just having fun and his sense of humor is silly. A lot of people can enjoy that. Those who lack a sense of humor can't. His wordplay is an amazing addition to his style relatively late in his career. Now I prefer today's Eminem over the old one because there's no wordplay pre-Recovery era.
May 29, 2022 From time to time, I listen to Recovery, trying to understand why It was so loved back than (and today)by some. And now, when I have no expectations, I can enjoy its energy and positive attitude. I still think that It is too monotonous with the shouting but separately a lot of tracks have some unique, classic feel to them. The other bad thing about the record is the track list. Almost Famous should be the final track on the album. It is too intensive and overwheliming for enything else to come after It. When the song ends, your ears are bleeding and you are fed up but then comes LTWYL - much less intensive but with more shouting. Not enough powerful to live up to the energetic bar set by AF but also not different enough from the rest of the album to be able to still catch your attention. And then there is some more...

Utterly bad and not fitting for someone with the lyrical ability with that of Eminem. Of course, they can be used humorously but only when they're fitting to the theme of the song. Em literally uses them anywhere obsessively and ruins the vibe completely. Of course, some of his punchlines are great. But the majority of them are utter trash like the ones I posted, especially in the recent times.
