Aug 26, 2022 Snoop Dogg has explained in a new interview why he’s happy to let other people write for him at this stage in his career. “I started off writing,” Snoop told B.Dot. “I started off writing for Dr. Dre, so what would I be if I didn’t allow somebody to write for me? Sometimes you gotta put yourself in the frame of letting somebody else depict a better picture for you because you can’t see everything.” Snoop went on to give an example of another artist’s best work that was written by someone else: “I feel like Whitney Houston’s best record was The Bodyguard, when the other people came in and gave her records that weren’t hers, where she could just sit back and just sing and they embodied what they thought she should be.” https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.72866/title.snoop-dogg-cordae-songwriting-writing-raps Can someone tell Snoop whitney houston was a singer? Not a rapper. The weed got to this guy's brain.
Aug 26, 2022 Who cares about ghostwriter anyway? Almost everybody use ghostwriter. Snoop washed and old i want to beat him up so bad that old b------ my god. Sweat still a good song tho
Aug 26, 2022 I don’t care much when a rapper uses a ghostwriter as long as they aren’t acting like they’re the best rapper ever who could smoke anybody. I remember when Snoop was acting all tough during that small beef with Eminem. He would’ve definitely had a ghostwriter write a diss track for him or else it would’ve been trash. But if he did that he’d look stupid as h--- acting all tough
Aug 26, 2022 I don’t think the problem is ghostwriters. Music is a collaborative process. Like in pop music, singer-songwriters toss around demos and write for other all the time. It’s the industry standard in contemporary Rock, Country, and Pop. But as far as Lyricist and Emceeing, then that’s were the problem lies. Not many real MC from the 80’s or 90’s would openly admit to have a ghostwriter, becuase the core of Rap is competing. Nowadays no one really cares as long as the verse and song are good. I don’t really care until a rapper claims to be top 5, but uses ghostwriters for thier most popular tracks. Like Game. Lmfao
Aug 26, 2022 True. Him just putting out the attitude towards Em in the first place. Calling it competitiveness or just seeing himself on same level or possibly even above Em as an artist is laughable. To me when it comes to rap you're either writing or producing. It's one or the other. An interviewer once asked DMX if he uses ghostwriters. He said of course not. "I write my own lyrics. I wouldn't be able to call myself an artist if I didn't write my own lyrics". Singing is different because it requires talent and practice. You don't have to compose all your own songs when your main talent is your voice. Same with playing an instrument. So it goes without saying if you're a rapper you should be writing your own rhymes. That's kind of the whole point of rapping and how it started. But hey, fair enough I guess if you aren't calling yourself the best.
Aug 26, 2022 Thanks not surprising though Drake has a bunch of phillipinos locked up in a section of his mansion writing rhymes Em probably has a mix of black dudes and white boyz in his closet writing rhymes
Aug 26, 2022 That’s a good point there. I agree with DMX too. If I was a rapper myself I’d also want to be writing my own rhymes, f--- having other people write it. I definitely understand why some people hate ghostwriters in rap
Aug 26, 2022 Game just reveals he does the same too. His ghost writer is a white guy who loves rap and if you listen closely to his music you can tell because sometimes he just name drops rappers
Aug 26, 2022 Maybe not so much for someone like snoop bra, but if I found out some one like hov or push didn't write any of their lyrics that would be f-----.
Aug 26, 2022 I dont hate snoop i am really thankful for Sweat its one of the best songs oat for me but he washed now like his slave master eminem and his lapdog dre
Aug 30, 2022 I just want good sounding music. I couldn’t care less about who wrote it. Is anyone going to not bob their head to still D.R.E just because we know jay z wrote it and Scott storch produced it
