Dec 8, 2023 Em has no mystique anymore, it's time for them to stop acting like he does and just be transparent about his current intentions. If he just wants to release a goofy fun album every once in a while now, that's fine, just say so. If he wants to release a big crazy album once in a while and then disappear for a long time after, that's fine, just say so. Even if he's retired, that's fine, he's earned it, just say so.
Dec 8, 2023 You can create mystique again pretty easily. He and his team just don't seem to know how. He went from being... pretty tasteful and like an enigma, to just being the corniest s--- on earth. That CC2 cover is abysmal. I wouldn't be surprised if Em himself designed it, as it doesn't seem like the work of a graphic designer; it's like his mind, just referencing everything but no artfulness or restraint to it. Which, I think was the theme of that, with the pin ball s---, like ping-pong ideas, his mind is like a ping pong etc. probably his idea to theme it like that too. But it's a really corny aeshteitc. But, accurate, because it really does sum up his 2009-to date... just alllll over the place, like swinging in the dark tryna hit s---.
Dec 8, 2023 His cover art in general has gotten worse lately, serviceable at best and clownish at worst. Hasn't been genuinely good since Relapse/Recovery. I think he and the team don't know exactly how seriously he needs to take himself and his image now, sometimes they go goofy and sometimes they try to be serious, but they both undermine each other at different times rather than being a compelling mixture.
Dec 8, 2023 Yeah, I mean they even managed to f--- up the MMLP2 cover, which, amazes me, because it's just a f---ing straight photo of the house - and it was a good idea, to revisit the house and it being run-down, older, like Em himself now... good metaphor... But... The new Eminem logo is too overwrought / modern and brand-esque, like a business brand, and that clunky '2'... all in clunky contrast with the 'old photo', 'handwritten style of 'marshall mathers' etc. I mean, these are little details but on such a basic cover, they stick out like a sore thumb cause there's not much else to focus on, so every little detail matters that much more. This is like basic design eye s---, like, the mismatch of tones and styles. Who tf is designing this s---. The MTBMB covers are p good, but again could have been wayyy better. The extra photos they released were more compelling or could have been used in a much more compelling way, rather than having the image of him sectioned off to a little corner n the way they structured it. Kamikaze was a doppppe cover. Will give 'em that. Fits perfectly, looks how the album sounds as well - like the colours fit the sound, like MMLP and TES did. It helps cement the feel and memory of the album too ya know.
