Dec 11, 2023 haven't logged into this forum in a very long time but have been listening to old eminem and didn't know where else to express this... Eminem was so incredibly talented and I'd say in his prime was the best rapper ever. His technical skill and complex rhyming ability; alongside his charisma, charm, playfulness, introspective lyrics, evocativeness just make him such a magnetic person and artist. it's no wonder he was such an iconic person in pop culture. he was quite an unusual, emotionally chaotic person (who was very damaged from trauma), but he was a product of his environment. So many people formed such a strong connection with him for a reason, but that same reason is also why so many of us became so frustrated with his later work. I've not really given many of his new albums more than one listen but i'm going to try to again soon and remain open minded (idk if i'll get through more than a couple tracks as usual though lol). I think culture definitely shifted which also impacted how we view his art but the quality has definitely declined over the years as well. But that period of like 97-2002... He had to be displaying skills and artistry that made him the best rapper ever in my book. I don't know that he's my favourite necessarily but he's definitely one of them (my heart says he probably is haha). The way his rapping was so technical, sounded good, and had lots of sentimental meaning was unparalleled in hip-hop imo. it made him really stand out above the rest. there are plenty of other rappers who i love for different reasons, but we really need to stay giving eminem his flowers. even if he's not the same anymore. he was incredibly impressive. had to get that out lol
