Seems like we’re getting something from Drake at some point:

Drake should definitely respond and here's the difference. The song was mostly aimed at him to begin with. Drake is not gearing up to drop his most anticipated project and Drake's whole vibe isn't about peace. Cole is soooo the f---ing Middle Child lol just trying to keep the peace between the brothers.

I think it’s less their age, per se, than the era they grew up in and how that’s informed their perspective. In other words, it’s not because they’re older, but it has a lot to do with their formative environment.

Age probably applies to my perspective as well. I view competition as core to hip-hip, and think that direct competition applies pressure to artists to create some of their best music. For me, it’s less about the spectacle of the battle than the indirect effects of sharpening the skills of those involved.

Agreed with the Drake response 100%. If it weren’t for Kendrick’s “clique-ing up” and “f--- the big 3” bars I’d perceive the situation differently and would say that Cole wasn’t targeted at all.

I’m surprised IB didn’t tweet out support to Cole like Ced, Omen and Felton.

Great post bro, that actually makes a lot of sense tbh.

I'll be honest and say that I do find some of his albums a bit boring compared to other rappers, but that's obviously subjective and he's a far better rapper than Drake and always has been.

This is genuinely one of my favourite rap songs ever. It's perfection from start to finish:

Thanks for the response man. There's nothing wrong with not feeling dude's music. You're right, it's totally subjective. There's a lot of artists that are considered to be good and that maybe I even consider good that I just don't feel like that. But ya the thing with the critics was always clearly more than that. Cole getting his first Grammy for A Lot is just ridiculous. Time tells the truth. How many 'bad' artists were relevant for 15 straight years?

this is honestly a great point. he doesn’t make his best music when he isn’t honest with himself. If he kept on this route The Fall Off may have sounded like s---, him being honest with himself will make The Fall Off a great album. I’m disappointed purely as a hip hop fan but at the end of the day, I’m not living my life vicariously through another man. People are upset because the world they want is not the world that is happening.

Definitely a weird and random take, but I do think it was an important album, just not for the reasons Charlamagne thinks. It proved if you’re a superstar of that caliber, at a certain point you’re free to make literally whatever the f--- you want and still sell fine, still not affect your image, longevity or have any adverse effect on your career whatsoever.

Drake has spent his entire career since after NWTS saying “f--- making good albums all i care about are hits” and making sloppy, boring albums for a cookie-cutter, forgettable discography while being a hit-god. The closest thing to experimentation he’s gotten since Take Care is a f---in’ electronic dance album. He is horrified to make something like 4:44, he could make a real album like FATD Scary Hours if he wanted and it’d go #1 but despite 4:44 teaching that lesson, he’s still scared to do it.

Eminem didn’t learn that lesson either and that’s why Revival happened the same year as 4:44. Kamikaze was, ostensibly a response to the negative reception Revival got but you can bet d--- well 4:44 paved the way for it in some way, in making both Em and Interscope more comfortable with it.

Time will show that this is one of, if not the, realest things Cole has ever done. And a great service to the culture and humanity. This saga really does reveal just how spiritually bankrupt our society is. Even the framing of it as "Cole apologized to Kendrick" is inaccurate and misses the point. Cole is apologizing to himself and frankly God for not being true to himself. He makes that obvious when he compared it to the SS/BS era where his pride and lack of conviction blocked him from his true purpose.

And right on cue, Fantano, who is basically a caricature of what I was describing gave him 3/10 for the tape.

Shouldnt have dissed him in the first place if he was gonna apologize. He probably saw what people were saying and thought he took it too far

Glad Cole apologized though, As much as i wanted him to show he could deliver a KO punch, he didn't seem like he wanted to attack Kdot. Thats now who he is
