May 23, 2024 24 years ago today Eminem dropped the MMLP. The album blew up the rapper to an even greater status then his 1999 hit single my name is, the year before. The album was the fastest selling rap album of all time and best first week sales at the time. Going on to become the biggest album of the decade selling over 35 Million copies. With smash radio singles The real slim shady and the critical success of Stan that has etched itself into the lexicon of pop culture. Slim Shady became a house hold name and the controversial lyrics had middle Americans and politicians protesting the censorship of the album. MMLP is now regarded as one of the greatest albums in music history and the singlehandedly elevated hip hop to a commercial level never seen before. As only 1 hip hop album has sold more, and that is Eminem’s own The Eminem show 2 years later. Many rap fans still believe it’s one of the all time greatest rap albums ever made. Eminem is now the 9th best selling artist ever, and this album is the keystone for that success
