May 29, 2024 Exactly. It's such a cop-out. But it's frustrating to those of us who have practised magic and KNOW he is not doing that. I mean, shows how good he is though, and it's his presentation - bc he doesn't make you feel like you're watching a magician a lot, he reformed presentation to make it modern-world, and not cheesy, and make you feel like you were watching a psychologist doing experiments etc. Which is why people get so angry and doubt like YOU CAN'T DO THAT, HE MUST BE USING STOOGES' etc. lmao bc he doesn't feel like a magician, he presents it like science. So good. But yes, people just 'I can't figure it out? = fake'.

May 29, 2024 Yeah and he says he's like, shy and quiet in real life. So weird how he can just, transform I mean I know a lot of... artists period do that like even music artists etc. but they're kind of relying on their music - music backing melodies etc. Brown has to speak and inhibit a character, and he just transforms to the most confident man alive. What's your favorite live show of his? I still love his first one... Something Wicked This Way Comes, the way he threaded the newspaper thing through the whole show; and that trick is not that complicated, but he threads it through and presents it like a show of psychological manipulation... fkn brilliant. That's one of the best examples of how he takes a pretty known and fairly simple to do trick, who in someone else's hands would be a 2 minute, pedestrian 'wow!' and turns it into a fkn whole show, elevates it, presents it as something totally different - as an extra layer of misdirection / make is harder to figure out too, and makes you question your existence lool.

May 29, 2024 I love his old material and his old persona/style more than in more recent stuff. Something Wicked This Way Comes and An Evening Of Wonders are my favorite. Also Trick Or Treat and Trick Of The Mind. I could watch those over and over and never stop being amazed.

May 29, 2024 Yeah, I love that stuff way more. Evening of Wonders I saw live. Was fkn amazing. The performance of when he's doing the mind reading s--- with the bandage on his head n s---... fkn > De Niro level of fkn cinematic s---, n that live was just unreal, then he drops to the floor. It's amazing he can pull people into the drama so much, like people live and I think even me gasped when he dropped to the floor... Even though we know obviously he's acting. Any other magician tries that s--- and nobody buys in to the story, the patter etc. people jsut roll their eyes until the 'thing happens' / card in the pocket, thing disappears, whatever, but they never usually buy the story or the acting. Brown can be making d-ck jokes one minute on stage, and telling you how it's all nonsense etc. next minute bandages round his head and acting like he's going through some traumatic wind of spirits infected him and everyone is gasping. Amazing.

May 29, 2024 Oh s---. I remember the first two times I saw that performance (on Youtube, since England is halfway across the world for me) I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I couldn't even fathom how he was doing it. I thought about traveling to England just to see one of his shows many times. But couldn't afford it.
