Jul 12, 2024 the beat switch on antichrist shouldve been its own song with slim killing that beat... s--- is FILTHY i need a remix or something g.d. em
Jul 12, 2024 Man. May have to listen to the 3rd track off TDOSS, Renaissance is growing on me a lot. Like a hard Drake flow but with em lyrics over an intense beat. Only song I scored below 8 so far - but I’m gonna have to bump it up. Just wish the lyrics were a little less redundant.
Jul 12, 2024 we all expected this, the filipino NF generic a--- artist. Should switch kyrie & luka for it chainz killt that
Jul 12, 2024 Took a bit to listen plenty of times. Currently at an 8, but might be a 7 over time, cos you never know how well something will age. Difficult with the ratings too, cos, in comparison to what? Cos it's clearly not a top 3 album, but I genuinely believe it s----s on everything post Recovery. Comparing to Recovery is difficult, cos this is my style of Em, but I'll always give Recovery props for being his comeback. I like Relapse to an extent, but I think I'll play this a lot more. Regardless of if I cringed or my mouth dropped at times, fair play to him for committing to the character. I have to remember that when I heard his classics, there were always lines that made me squirm like, 'mate, you can't say that'. It is what it is. Love: Renaissance, Lucifer, Evil, Fuel, Habits, Antichrist, Houdini, Temporary, Somebody Save Me, GC2. Alright: Tobey, Bad One. Won't listen to much: Brand New Dance, Road Rage. Which, compared to previous Em albums in modern times, is a lot of album to like. Main gripes were the placement of Bad One. The topics of Road Rage. EZ almost ruining a pretty solid verse and chorus with going bilingual for too many bars. I get the joke and story behind Brand New Dance, but feel like it could've been a funny skit with maybe a minute of it playing like an Easter egg. Main loves were the 'k--- you' esque chorus on antichrist. His flow on Habits and Lucifer. How he matched JID on a song. As a new girl Dad, the clips on Temporary got me. Also, Somebody Save Me was a perfect ending to what was quite an intense album, as a shady song would've made no sense, and a bragging song would've gone against the 'cancel me, I'm about done' vibe. Slap an emotional music video to that and it'd chart, on some mockingbird s---. Completely understand why views are mixed. We all had the perfect album in our head, it'll never hit every point. However, when I was processing it, the biggest realisation I had was that the album had made me think and question things. I was sat there like, 'that was shocking, but am I good or bad shocked', 'what will be the reaction to that', 'what event dragged that song out of him'. Which was nice, cos his old work always made you uncomfortable at times, made you question censorship and what's too far, have you smile at something you shouldn't. But we'd had so many years of sitting through albums that played relatively safe, and had you instantly go, 'that was ok/s---, at least I got more Em music'. For all its flaws, and even his classics have them, this was the first time that his music challenged me for quite a while - took me back to the first time I heard Bonnie and Clyde, Kim, Cleaning Out My Closet, etc. Anyway. Give it time, take what you like from it and have a good week peeps.
Jul 12, 2024 https://x.com/spintheneedle/status/1811679345775100355?s=46 anyone else notice this ? He clearly did the mmlp2 voice, I thought his voice just changed with time but he can easily change it when he wants
Jul 12, 2024 Aight Had my 2nd listen. I just skipped Temporary completely and skipped most of Somebody Save Me. Because they crush my already broken soul. Once again it's hard to form an opinion because I literary forget what I listened to. The album cohesiveness is masterful, that's for sure. However, I think after the spitting in the intro he should've put something else before Renaissance and then Renaissance after it. Like, it's all good to start suddenly and I don't mind it, it's good, I'm just saying that I prefer a buildup intro, is all. The ending, hm, i think it ended kinda abruptly, like, it works but a Bad Guy type of ending woulda worked more. Maybe that's just me nitpicking because I cannot listen to sad songs idk. I think Head Honcho should've been solely an Ez Mil song, he's great on it and I don't think Em or anyone was needed, Em shoulda given the beat to Ez and gotten Ez on a different song. The JID verse on fuel is fire, no pun intended. Though, I'd prefer if Em had a different verse, when he comes in it feels like JID wasn't even on the song. That said the C ryhme scheme is epic, but still, would've wanted a different verse from Em. Road Rage was unnecessary. I'm happy he got a Sly hook but the song could be replaced with a different one, and no, not the bonus tracks. The hooks are great. I'm certain Evil, Antichrist, Road Rage, Renaissance, Bad One won't be the next single. Anyways, I'm really unsure how to feel about the album. The more I listen the more I like it, but it's like I never listened to it, it's hard to remember any song ir lyric, I feel like I had the same issue on MTMB, not on Kamikaze and MMLP2. Revival I do not care about so whatever. I wonder if we'll get another album with more features, cause it felt like there should be more based on the years long development and promo.
Jul 12, 2024 Oh and the Caitlyn mentions and fat people and stuff is just irritating to hear. I'm no supporter, it just was unnecessary, coulda done it in one song. Simply mentioning the word "cancel" or "gen z" pinches me a bit.
Jul 12, 2024 pretty clear at this point, they'll hate him no matter what. sad to see I f---ing love this album regardless
Jul 12, 2024 Yeah I instantly recognized the style but couldn't remember where it came from, or well, didn't have time to think about it
